Listerine to sanitize laundry?

I recently saw a report on tv about how nasty our washing machines are inside. Personally, mine smells clean and fresh but it prompted me to Google sanitizing laundry and I came across laundry sanitizers that used pesticides to sanitize (no thanks) then I found this article on using antiseptic, sugar free (sugar can stain clothing) and make sure the mouthwash contains alcohol. Listerine or any generic amber antiseptic mouthwash contains alcohol and is sugar free so I tried it. The article said to put a cup if it was a top loader but I put like 1/3 of a cup since I have a fl and I only did this on colored clothes since I use bleach for whites. I'm not sure if I'm going to do this all the time but if anyone has some really NASTY laundry, you can try it. I smelled a faint smell of listerine when the laundry finished but once out of the dryer I smelled nothing but clean clothes.
