The last picture in the first post is probably the best picture I can get of the wall with the misplaced sconces - the one that has to move is open hole, with blue tape to the left of it where it was supposed to be. The other is behind one of the chandy lights at this angle. Unfortunately, once I saw the room with furniture in it, I realized that a picture hanging b/t the sconces would also be obscured by the chandy (unless maybe you're sitting at the table). I'll try to stand at the foot of the table tomorrow and take another picture so you can see both sconce locations. I can't believe I never caught this on the plans! Question is not could I move the sconce, but should I? Since I compounded the builder's error by laying the floor in a pattern centered on the room, should I leave the sconces centered and move the chandy (whenever we repaint the ceilings - maybe a medallion would hide the current hole and we could move it now?), which would mean moving the table closer to the windows than it is to the china cabinet, and maybe even moving the small buffet server to b/t the windows since it is the same depth as the china cabinet? That would just make it harder to move around the table and pull out chairs, since the room is only 13 ft wide. Thank you for the compliments on my great-grandmother. Now we know where we all got our blue eyes from (except DD - she got some hazel combo from my blue and DH's green)!

I believe mirrors started being used as wall hangings when the intent was to "double" another view, say the outdoors through a window or double doors. So if what is reflected on your mirror is juist ceiling, maybe it wasn't the best wall hanging choice. Oh, but they make them so pretty these days, they are hard to resist. Yours is def. gorgeous. Back to mirror orientation, I didn't realize that you were planning on adding light sconces. And why would you do that? b/c you need to fill up lateral space. Precisely the reason why placed horizontally has been so popular here. It fills up the space that needs to be filled. Additionally, with that pretty, blingy chandy, won't sconces be distracting? You seem to have pretty sleek, non-cutesy taste. I think sconces might be too much, esp. if you don't need extra illumination.

kmcg85 - omigosh, that floor mirror IS stunning and would be lovely but for two things, the $700 price tag and the 75 pound dog that would chase her ball into the room and run headfirst into the mirror. :) teacats - good point on the gold in the painting. The candleholders look better in the picture than they do in person and may not stay in the room. My bronzes will likely go in there though. justgotabeme had mentioned gold METAL and there isn't much of that around at all. Shiny brass doorknobs that are going are all I can think of. My rug for the sitting area should be here on Saturday. I am in love with it on the computer. Hopefully I will love it in person. :) And I just walked out into the garage and saw the black cabinet we used to have the TV on in the library. I think it might work in the sitting space for now. There are a couple of coffee tables on craigslist I'm going to go look at today. I am getting antsy. I hate having to wait for men with muscles to be here to move the big furniture back into place. Wah!

Please remember, this is MY opinion ONLY...LOL...first of all, KEEP the mirror...ANY light in the room will be reflected by it and lighten the room considerably.....next, IF the budget allows, PLEASE replace the 4 TALL wood chairs with ones with LOWER backs !! You are cutting off the "line of sight" with those tall chairs and it makes it look "choppy"...(( relegate the tall chairs to the attic for later use, possibly ))…..next, there ARE "battery operated" wall sconces available, so no wiring would need to be done...they work by remote control...choose ones that are dainty and have hanging crystals the same as in the chandelier to unify the area....ditch the 4 botanical prints and center the sconces to either side of the mirror....next, totally CLEAR OFF the buffet, and put ONE LARGE flower arrangement in the center ( stick with "muted colors" of flowers so it doesn't scream out at you, but is subdued and classy )…..and finally, add a classy table runner with a large crystal candleholder with hurricane shade in center of table with a crystal candlestick to either side of it...REMEMBER..."less is more"...clearing the buffet of everything except a flower arrangement makes it easier to clear off to accommodate serving dishes and looks less cluttered...same with candle pieces on table runner...when dining, YOU can choose to leave them and light them, or clear table off completely....your room has such a classy and subdued vibe ….what time is dinner and when should I arrive??? LOL...good luck with it all....
