Thanks everybody. And, after reading all the links (especially the one MightyAnvil posted) I'm more confused than ever! It looks like paint manufacturers change their formulations before enough time ever passes for anybody to even figure out if the old formula really held up as advertised or not. One has to hope that no company would go from a better formula to a worse one and that the reason for the constant shifts in ratings is because the various companies are leapfrogging over one another with their new formulations. If that is the case, we should eventually reach the point where every paint lasts 100 years or more. HAH! More likely, companies change formulas as various ingredients get more or less expensive so they can maximize profits. (I can just imagine some company pencil-pusher thinking, "Let's see now, if we use cheaper ingredients, we'll make more profit but only until our reputation starts to suffer and we begin losing market share. So, just how long can we slide using this cheap formulation before we have to start using good ones again so we can advertise 'Reformulated to last 25% longer!' If we play this just right, we can make money coming and going!") Beginning to think paint could be a "ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances" kind of deal with the only real info available regarding quality being that much more expensive paints are USUALLY better than really cheap ones. Dixiedoodle, did you find copies of SW's actual warranties posted somewhere on their website? I looked but couldn't find them. Just the basic descriptions (eg."25 years") but not the actual warranty language with all the various exclusionary language that is always included.

So sorry I never updated this thread (such a bad habit to not conclude threads in case they pop up in future searches). I posted the tile info in another thread, but i should post it here too. The 'marble' tile is porcelain and is called Exedra Calacutta. 18 x 18 on the floor, 9 x 18 on the walls. The feature tile is Danse Lucido Vetromarmi collection water jet tile with glass and calcutta marble. The subways and shower floor 1 x 1s are Pavarotti Pearl. All tile is from Artistic Tile. BlackChamois the Gray Owl didn't work at all. All the ones I thought would be great just didn't look the same in the space. Enduring, we LOVE Smokey Taupe. It's our whole kitchen and library area paint. I just didn't like how it was pulling out the strong yellows in the tile. Maybe because the tile is porcelain and I felt it made it look more like porcelain and less like marble? In the end we stuck with Moonshine. It ended up settling in much less blue and much more green. I must have caught it in very specific light for it to look that blue. Paint is so tricky! We're kind of torn about what to do. I have a swatch and it doesn't match the color on the walls. I also took the painted 2x4 from the site and painted it with our paint color and it doesn't match. What do we do from here? The color isn't really that bad. But, am I saying that bc I don't want the hassle of putting on another paint color? Doing so would delay construction, and I don't know who is going to pay for fixing the mix up. Our builder told us it would cost $3800 to respray the house. Who should pay for it if the paint store mixed up the formula? I don't think we should have to pay for it, and I don't think the builder or the painter should either. Should the paint store? I know, good luck with that. Hi, It's a good idea to sponge down the new drywall before painting. We always sand down rough spots before the first finish coat. Often defects will show up after priming that require "point-up" with more mud or spackle. If you are spraying, you must vacuum the whole floor because the air movement will blow all kinds of crap from floor to paint. Sometimes finishers mix their own ceiling texture from paint w/drywall mud added to it, so it has the feel of paint, but since it's part mud, it is more porous and will stain easier. For a first-class job, paint it; if money's an issue, wait a few years and and paint it when you are ready to repaint the rooms. Casey
