Follow-up: I think the only option is to move the lights further out, which I'm guesstimating will be about 18" on-center from the cabinets. So, I still wonder if I should match the 18" positions for 5,6 and 7 too. I'm thinking yes, simply to have the light that is cast on the cabinet fronts to be matching. Any thoughts otherwise? Good idea about the dimmer Poohpup, I'll do that. Both you and oldbat2be said in front of the cabinets, and that is what I was thinking too, with a couple in the center so the light is even. Good point oldbat2be about the location of the switches. Unfortunately, they are already done so I hope they work. They are on 3-ways and one by each doorway. The undercabinet lights I bought are the kind little fluorescent pucks that plug in. I couldn't find any of those that direct wire or that are dimmable. I really wanted dimmable. Yes, it looks so much better after the drywall is complete. Dh & I put in the sheetrock (and dh cut the hole too big for that one outlook) and we had someone else do the tape/bed/texture. Thank you breezygirl, I love that door too. Here is a plan of the side of the kitchen that is currently torn out. The oven cabinet at the end isn't done yet and I am rethinking going to the ceiling. I think I may make a soffit over it too so the vent hood stands out more. Dh took out the soffit on the empty side because it was easier than trying to rebuild what was there to fit the new arrangement. On the side that it there, there is a pantry at the end which will go up to the ceiling, the dishwasher, 30" sink, 5 feet of uppers and lowers, and the refrigerator/freezer cabinet. Those moving shadows drive me nuts in restaurants.

It's hard to understand the angle but it might be ok. (It looks like a good 6+ inches of trimwork would be required before any overlapped the light). Figure out how the joists run (if you haven't already). It seems that it would be fine either way to just move it out (if you have to) or out and over. We've moved two (maybe three!) reccessed lights. It's fairly easy to patch the hole (this part, I can do myself, DH does the electrical). What's more embarrassing is that one of my most accessible three way switches, control(s) a single overhead can. (Sigh). Just one in a long series of lighting mistakes (I went a little overboard in the zones and wiring choices). The middle light here is the one which had to be first omitted and then moved out to accommodate the hood trim: Now it's gone.... If you look closely you can see my patching job: Ha! I'd forgotten about these. The island and backsplash colors are photoshopped but look at all the patched holes in the ceiling!! (Yup, more mistakes on my part). Hi Melanie! So, a common way for placing furniture is known as the “floating” furniture arrangement. This keeps the furniture from being against walls and it allows more walking space from one room to the other. This type of arrangement is necessary especially when you have a living room that is as large as your space. This also gives you the opportunity to have more intimate seating rather than seating that can tend to be disconnected and awkward if seating were to be placed against walls within the space. For an example, what if you decide to place furniture against the walls in your space? This is going to make the living space become less functional and awkward due to the furniture being placed far apart from each other. And it will cause people to feel disconnected from one another. Or, this will cause someone to have to move from one area of the room to another, in order to get close to the person they are trying to socialize with. In realty, your space is very large in length, so disconnection between furniture and people could be of concern. Therefore, in order to avoid the -“leaning in to talk or hear someone” scenario, or having to move from one seat to another to converse with others, you should consider furniture arrangements, such as floating furniture, that will allow comfort and good conversation. You also have a beautiful view from your windows, so it is best to avoid placing your furniture directly in front of them. I would recommend placing your tv near the wall that has the smallest window. By understanding where your tv will go, this will serve as a focal point that you want your furniture to be centered around.
