Deciding Between the Bosch Nexxt 800 and the Miele W4800

We haven't owned a washer/dryer in 10 years and are having a very hard time deciding on what to buy. After much research we've narrowed it down to these two machines. Can anyone provide any feedback, pros/cons? We were also considering the LG Tromm Steamwasher but it seems to have too many service issues.

We're moving in a couple of weeks and are running out of time!

Please see my reply to "Miele W4800 New User Issues".
To be fair, I have no experience with the Bosch but we don't like our Bosch dishwasher (other than the fact it is extremely quiet). When we buy appliances again, we will go back to North American designed machines.

I recently decided between these two myself. The obvious huge factor was the money difference. I decided against the Miele bc it is so new and I expect glitches. I also didn't like the look of the Miele controls. And the salesman couldn't tell me whether the Miele would heat water in every cycle or if it could do a spin only cycle which I like to use. I won't move into my huse until March so I won't be able to comment on performance for awhile, but I'm optimstic.

BTW, I currently have a Bosch DW and I will be buying two Miele DW for my new house. I think Bosch is fine, but have become convinced that Miele DW will be a better longterm investment in the DW dept.

hum............mom46 - I'm sorry you are unhappy with your DW, but you bought the bottom of the barrel, EL CHEAPO, lowest quality, plastic bottomed Bosch that often sells for less than $500. burn-side is looking at the top of the range , made in Germany, $2000 ++ model that has an all stainless tub and a water softener. BBBBBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGG difference between what you have. Furthermore - your Bosch and all others WILL dry dishes. They won't completely dry facet or groove laden THIN PLASTIC items like tupperware or sippy cups. But then again neither will a model with a "heated dry" function ! They will both dry china, ceramic and glass and thick plastic/acrylic dishes just fine , if used properly. Yes it has longer cycles than your previous 20 year old DW. So do all models from all brands today - even American makes like Kitchen Aid and GE . Unless you're running a short order diner and need dishes turned over what difference does it make whether the cycle is 52 minutes or 1 hour and 37 ??? You can't wait around for either one. If you have standing water - your product has not been installed properly or it's defective (though less likely) . Racks being efficient are a matter of personal taste so I won't chide you much here. I will point you back to your el Cheapo model and tell you that you have the least sturdy and adjustable rack in the Bosch lineup. Yes, rinse aid is compulsory in all european dishwashers. A drag for some , but with this need comes the freedom to place plastic items in any rack with out fear of melting ! To each his own. BTW - you might want to do a little bit of homework before you spout out stats like 45% and Kenmore is sooooooo great. Betcha didn't know that Bosch manufactures some of those relabeled Kenmore DWs.

Well, I finally took the plunge and bought a Bosch 500 Plus Washer/Dryer today!!!!! I think I got a great!! I first want to let people know that now through the end of the year there are up to $125 rebate on all Bosch Washers. Mine has a $100 rebate. The 800 series has the $125 rebate. I bought them at Pacific Sales and I almost think the sales person might have made a mistake because out the door I paid under $2300 (including tax and free delivery, $2200 if you count the rebate. And that was for the ones in silver, it included the pedestals and the extended service plan (for four more years at $64 each). I verified the model numbers so she did order the right ones. I was going to wait to see them but once she told me the price I didnt hesitate. Ive done a lot of research, and it seems that there are no perfect brands anymore. I just hope I fall in the majority of Bosch owners and become very satisfied with my purchase decision. (At least I wont feel that they were over priced.)

I promised that IÂd get back in touch and post a few comments. The Bosch 700Âs were delivered and installed last Saturday and weÂve been very pleased with both machines so far. We havenÂt done anything fancy with them yet and we arenÂt completely familiar with all of their features, options and cycles but weÂve used the "Regular Cotton" cycle and everything that weÂve washed has turned out beautifully. We havenÂt tried to wash everything in the house (as some people have said) but have just done laundry as we normally would which means that weÂve done both colors and whites. I sorted as I normally would, loaded the machine loosely - the machine was full but I didnÂt compress anything as I loaded it and of course everything compacts down once the load is saturated. For "colors", IÂve used Clorox II with Tide HE in the detergent dispenser. For "whites", IÂve used Tide HE in the detergent dispenser and Clorox HE in the liquid bleach dispenser. The machine uses very little water Â little to none is visible when just casually looking at whatÂs going on through the porthole and while thatÂs a paradigm shift for me - it is nice to think that it is using water efficiently, using less hot water etc. Everything that weÂve washed has turned out great - so no complaints. So I guess that I have to eat my words and say that IÂm a convert Â no regrets about changing and after using these, IÂm glad that we made the change. DonÂt see us going back to a TL (yes I know IÂm eating my words) LOL

Thanks gneegirl for the response. I am leaning towards the Bosch. I believe the Platinum is the 700 series without the sanitary cycle, but I can't find the manual on their website. From what I understand the Maytag Epic is the Duets rebadged, but not sure that is actually the case. So I have all three units on hold and need to decide tomorrow. Hopefully, someone knows the difference between the Bosch and Epic. I DONT have to get the dryer now. In fact I was thinking of maybe waiting and getting a steam dryer, like the new Whirlpool

I have the Bosh 500, not 800, and love the machine. It washes huge loads, everything is clean, use its heater in every cycle, does everything I want it to do.

I also have the bosch 500 and will second aliceinwonderland... it does what I need it to do and it does it well. I also did look at the miele... couldn't begin to imagine how I would have sold the cost difference to DH! plus I would have had to hire an electrician for the 220 line... which would have added even more cost... the plus of the miele was the door opens the opposite way, which would have been better in my setup, but as my machines face each other, I can easily 'deal' with the doors opening as they come on the bosch...

fwiw... I know several people with the same washer now (bought due to mine!) and they all love it too. On another perspective, those that I know with the bosch dishwasher... all HATE them...

I have the Bosch 500 plus and am very happy with it. It does a great job at cleaning and is easy enough to use even for DH...;-)
I am confident that Bosch makes good quality appliances and I feel the price is reasonable.

I got my Bosch DW (the bottom-of-the-line Evolution 300) at the same time as my washer (about 8 weeks ago) and I don't understand why people wouldn't like it. It is very quiet, holds plenty of dishes and cleans great. I use Cascade or Electrasol detergent and JetDry. It is true that plastic items don't always come out totally dry, but that was true for the old DW with the heating element as well. I don't miss that stupid heating element at all. I also don't want a DW to have an IMO useless and noisy food grinder.

So far, I am very happy with ALL of my new Bosch appliances (washer, dryer and DW). I, personally, wouldn't spend the extra money on the Miele. They make good appliances in Europe, but the American models don't seem to be all that great.
