I checked and they aren't selling on E-bay...LOL...I don't think my relatives want an ice-cream maker for Christmas and birthdays for the next 20 years!

Thanks! I ordered one too, and I already bought a 2-quart Kitchenaid ice cream maker bowl. I thought that for $15 I would like to have a spare, and it would be nice to make more than one type of ice cream or sorbet at a time, especially for parties. I'm living in a somewhat warmer neighborhood now, as I am currently about 4-1/2 miles from the beach instead of half a mile. It makes a difference in the weather here. I've been having ice cream/gelato cravings for the past two weeks, and we bought ice cream at the grocery store yesterday for the first time in over a year. I'm going to try making coconut ice cream using cream and coconut milk - no regular milk - and see how that turns out.

Lindac - I had a similar problem. Had to cancel my card months ago when I thought I had lost my wallet, and didn't realize until I went to order the ice cream maker than I never received a new card. Went into my online account and but it only shows the last four digits of the number. I called customer service and kept getting bounced around. Finally got a woman who was helpful, explained to her that I MUST order this NOW thank-you-very-much, and she happily put it through. In fact, she was so amazed at the price that she was going to order when she got home!

Kohls is the only store card I have because it really does get you some great deals.

I just received my ice cream maker. Picked up some low-fat yogurt, have a block of Belgian chocolate and some really good black cherries. Guess we will have chocolate/cherry frozen yogurt for my birthday!

Mine came in today - the bowl is chilling and tomorrow night is PEACH ICE CREAM NIGHT!! Woo Hoo!!

I'm actually looking forward to Thanksgiving! We always have friends over to share the meal, so I will freak them out by offering home-made lemon sorbet from my Myers Lemon tree. Oh, what a treat! I have some juice frozen--guess I'll try it out ahead of time. Isn't this a blast??

I haven't received mine yet. It is scheduled be to delivered today. I ordered only 1 and was planning to keep it as a back up. But now, my brother & his wife are coming down this weekend, I'm going to give it to my sis-in-law as her birthday present.

I've been using mine to make exotic fruit ice creams such as Durian Ice Cream and Jackfruit Ice Cream. It's rare to find a local store that makes them. If there is one, it's so far from my house. It'd be nice that she can make these at home too.

Homemade ice cream tastes so fresh and delicious. I love the fact that I can ajust the sugar level to my own taste. I don't like desserts that are so sweet. The sugar content tends to overwhelm all the other ingredients.

Hopefully, this good deal will come back soon.

Does anyone know the reason ... my son couldn't remember but told me that Alton Brown said the paddle/arm should be running before adding the mixture ... something about ice crystals forming? Is this right?

As an aside, ours arrived today and the bowl is in plastic bag in the freezer.

Cathy in pa: I THINK the reference is for when adding any additions towards the end of ice cream making - such as nuts, fruit pieces, etc., which are normally not added until the last few minutes.

Hi Cathy

The reasoning behind adding the mixture when the paddle is running is that the bowl is really cold and the mixture,which should be really cold too (refrigerate at least 8 hours - I cheat and freeze it for 2 hours stirring often), will start to freeze as soon as it hits the sides of the machine making the paddle almost impossible to move and you run the risk of burning out the motor.

Thanks so much for the additional information arlinek and loves2cook4six! I hadn't even thought about when to add additional ingredients and will tell you honestly ... I can envision myself pouring in the mixture and then turning it on. Gah! Can you imagine burning the motor?

Really appreciated -- and yes, I'll be so interested to read about everyone's ice cream. I still have to buy ingredients:)!

Cathy seems to be right. The first time I used it, I poured the mixture into the bowl, then turned it on. The mixture in the center was creamy but there was about 1/4 inch thick of ice cream hardened on the side of the bowl.

The 2nd time, I turned the machine on and then pour the mixture in slowly. There was only a thin layer of ice cream a little harden but not as hard as the first time. Both times I used the same recipe.

From then on, I turned the machine on first then, pour in the mixture. By the way, my mixture usually have small pieces of fresh fruits when mixing and it came out fine.

That's interesting and useful information, ntt hou. I was more focused on not overfilling (instructions: do not fill the freezer bowl more than 1/4" from the top) and the ensuing clean up, but your experiences make sense.

Hopefully with some of these wonderful recipes, trial and error, we'll have some delicious ice cream soon.

I got mine yesterday. I was wondering if everyone wraps the bowl in plastic before putting in the freezer. Do you think this is really necessary?

Joanm, I know zero about ice cream making, but my son said the plastic can reduce the chance of the freezer bowl getting freezer burn? Don't know if it's true/important or not, but hedged my bets and did it -- Good luck!
