I've since calmed down a bit, I think I was just having a panic attack b/c nothing in this project is going as planned (we bought a new home in Oct and gutted it, we are no where near finished and desperately want to be done). Regardless, the painters came yesterday and I gave them a bookshelf that will be part of the island that is going to be hand paint for me to look at. remodelfla , I like your idea of painting the side of the cabinet better, which will ultimately be covered by an end panel, but unfortunately they came before I was able to read your comments. As cheri127 said, I too have never seen anyone paint with a brush and have no marks so I am again second guessing my decision ¼. I figure I can always sand it down again if it is not the look I want. We put some of the paint they had matched on a piece of wood and let it dry and it matches the current base color of the cabinets really well. I am happy with the color, so at last we have that done. Now I need to figure out the glaze. cleo_2007, great suggestion. I had tried to get all this from the cabinet manufacturer (JSI Cabinetry) but they were unable to give me anything. Apparently these are made in China and it is not available. I was my cabinet co. was like yours. nodirthere, your kitchen is beautiful and the same look I am going for. I had come across your blog on the finished page looking around for ideas. Luckily my doors were already sprayed by the manufacturer and glazed and we like the look so we are not touching those. Only the boxes, stiles, rails, columns, trim and molding need to be painted. At least the doors will have a really nice clean finished look to them, I just want the boxes to match. I am attempted to add pictures for you to see, but am a novice at this so it did not work. Anyone know how? Thanks again for all your help. I¡¦ll keep you posted on how things go.

I have nothing more to offer regarding "how" to clean the mess, but definitely have a recommendation for "who" should actually be putting the elbow grease into the project. The offending son absolutely should be the person doing the cleanup and, if the pan can't be salvaged, he should purchase a new one from his own money. That being said, I'm in a never-ending training mode when it comes to keeping my husband from ruining my non-stick frypans. You would think that paying for new ones would help reinforce the "use plastic utensils" rule.

The cuts are nice and straight ... he used some sort of track/stop to run the saw along. We did have him sand yesterday (with the thought that if that doesn't work, anything else we'd do would be more drastic and the sanding wouldn't matter). It was pouring when we got home so I have to go outside now and see how much it helped. That actually isn't anchorseal, it's all splinters and chew marks ... it looks darker because those are the boards he put down last fall, so they have faded, and the chew stuff exposed the new wood. The screws are a little shiny, but they are countersunk a bit, so as long as you're not looking straight down on them (like I am here), it's really not too obvious ... plus I thought they'd go better when the deck is gray (and if I stain the stain will fill the little sink holes and obscure them a bit). Anyway, I'll post an update tonight with some new pictures ... I know he did go get "another" new blade (with 60 teeth) after we yelled at him, so perhaps the few remaining boards to be cut will be better. Do circular saw blades really run "backwards"? That's what he said ... Thanks for all the support guys! It probably wasn't as bad as I made it out to be but I was REALLY upset when I first saw it (after all, all the other cuts he made on the deck were perfectly smooth). Thanks again, Birgit

Several years ago I did a lot of research on cleaning urine. I was not satisfied with Nature's Miracle, or 3 other pet stain cleaners I had tried. The urine causes smells when bacteria, in favorable humid/moist conditions, feed on crystals in the urine. The crystals have a very sharp structure that attaches to surfaces and sticks forever. I found this awesome product WORKS: http://www.scoe10x.com/ It uses probiotics (beneficial bacteria) to completely digest the urine, and the odor-causing bacteria deprived of food then die. I used it as directed on a mattress that was soaked in pee. A wonderful quality organic latex mattress. I completely soaked the mattress and wrapped it in plastic to give the probiotics time to work all through the mattress, then dried it with an industrial fan blowing over it. It completely eliminated the stains and the smell, even when the room is very humid (from the humidifier, which helps control cough). The product does not need to be rinsed and leaves no residue. Also, everyone, especially pet owners, should own a black light. A major challenge with cleaning pet stains is that there is much more urine than you think, that you can't see. With the black light, you will see it. (Because of the black light, I could see that Nature's Miracle wasn't working.) Buy a lot more SCOE10X cleaner than you think you need, because you need to soak every urine crystal. SCOE10X salvaged this expensive organic latex mattress and left it completely fresh and clean. I'm planning to tear out all of our wall-to-wall carpet soon, so I'm not wasting money or energy cleaning the old pet accidents out of it, but I'm planning to use my black light to find where urine has soaked into the subfloor and SCOE10X it away before installing wood floors! I have no association with the company, just a happy customer. Too bad we can't readily get it at any pet store, because every pet owner needs it.
