Bosch compact washer and Asko compact dryer compatibility

Does anyone know if you can plug a Bosch compact washer into
an Asko compact dryer? My old Asko washer had (and my hopefully future Bosch has) a 240V-3prong plug, but neither company will tell me if they are compatible. Personally, I will never buy an Asko washer again -- lots and lots of repairs and it only lasted a little over the seven year mark. The dryer has been fine.

Hi A143. I have no idea if they're compatible, but I just replaced my old Bosch set yesterday. They're still in our breezeway awaiting haul off. So II can shoot a picture of the Bosch washer plug if that will allow you to compare it to your Asko's plug.

I can shoot a picture of the Bosch dryer plug, too. For some reason, I'm thinking it is a four prong plug.

The Bosch washer has a three-prong NEMA 6-15P plug that fits into a 6-15R outlet - 208 or 240 volt, 15 amp, with two horizontal slots in a row (both hot) and a round ground hole. If your Asko dryer outlet looks like the upper one in this pic (the lower outlet is the more familiar 120v), it should work.

The dryer probably has a large 208/240 volt, 30 amp plug at the end of a thick cable, intended to power a large 27" or wider American electric dryer. Most of the smaller 24" wide dryers draw less than 15 amps, but are often supplied with a 30 amp plug anyway (either 3 or 4 prong, often owner swappable) with internal fusing at 15 amps because such wall outlets are common in American laundry rooms. Since the dryer draws less than 15 amps, a 240 volt/15 amp outlet on the back of the dryer allows a 240V/15A washer to plug into the dryer, and the dryer to plug into a 240V/30A outlet thus powering both machines.

I just put down a deposit on the new Asko compact model W6424 which replaces the discontinued W6222. I don't expect to take delivery for at least a month but will write a review in the future. According to the specs on Asko's web site, the dBA level for the wash cycle is 54 and 75 for the spin cycle. The main difference between the 6222 and the new model is that the drop-down door on the washer has been eliminated. But the 6424 has the 24-hour delay start feature which is something I wanted. Incidentally, Asko's web site indicated that the 6222 had this feature, but it's an error that I brought to their attention. I saw the 6424 at a home show recently and talked to the regional distributor. He said that the new model has a slightly larger capacity than the 6222, and then went into a discussion about differences in the advertised capacities and the real capacities. Without mentioning the name of a competitor's compact model (he was talking about the Bosch compact) he said their advertised capacity of 3.4 cubic ft. is misleading and for a true apples-to-apples comparison to check the Energy Star web site. Was very happy with my Bosch pair. It's easy to use and does an excellent job. I had the condenser dryer and really liked it a lot. Normal drying times, I would say. I have the Miele set now, which are pluperfect, but for what you're describing Bosch will be fine. I've seen the Blomberg around but can't comment.

It's actually probably a 240 volt outlet, since I don't think you can get an American power company to supply 220 volts :) But anyway, it should be more like $50 dollars to replace the outlet, but the company might have a minimum visit fee, so you could wind up paying more. On the other hand, if you have anything else that you wanted done electrically, you could probably get it done at the same time for the same price. The one problem that could make it *very* expensive if this is an older house is that you might not have a ground at that location. Some of the older houses had NEMA 10-30 outlets, which were hot-hot-neutral, no ground. You can upgrade them to NEMA 14-30 (in some situations), which is supposed to be hot-hot-nuetral-ground by tying the ground to the neutral and declaring it "safe enough." Obviously, you can't then convert it to standard three prong grounded, because there is nothing to ground to unless you can add a new ground, which might be where the extra cost comes in. That said, we are pretty happy with our Miele pair, and it fits in the space you described, but requires an additional part that doesn't come with it, and that the installer had never heard of. But as the other poster said, only the dryer takes 240. The washer takes 120 (standard american 3 prong)

Asko would seem to meet your requirements. Possibly Miele also, at a somewhat higher price. Asko T712 dryer, W6222 washer, for example.

Same experience with Asko. But just replaced dryer 2 years ago and feel like I have been joined at the hip with them since 2001.

Yes, me too. Asko washer just went after 7-8 years. Repair guys made a few trips in. Control board and motor replaced and it still wouldn't wash. We could hear it when it shorted at 8 minutes into the wash cycle. Something wrong with the wiring. Would be too expensive to hunt around and find it. Now I am looking at something small enough to fit into the space, however, I am tempted to pull out the washer and the Asko dryer and just buy regular, stand alone, bigger machines. And North American made too. More parts availability.

Oh, did you know that when the repair shop needs to move the washing machine of a stand, they'll send two guys out and you have to pay for both??? So much for those stands. What a racket. I have limited space too. Laundrymat, here I come.
