Need your prayers again.....this time for my Brother

As you may remember, he had quadruple bypass on Jan. 8, and sailed through the surgery with flying colors, or so we thought. Apparently his lung collapsed during surgery, but noone told him till 4 weeks later.

It's been more than 6 weeks and he can hardly get his breath. He has an absess on the bone at the top of the incision, and a smaller infection at the bottom. He's on heavy antibiotics, but to me and my DM he isn't getting better. A nurse comes in daily to change the dressing and clean the wound.

We stopped in to see him this afternoon, and after answering the door, he had to sit, gasping, for a full 5 minutes before he could even speak. And all through his sentences he would have to stop and catch his breath, before he could continue.

We're getting quite frightened for him, and my poor Mom keeps breaking into tears, she's worried so much.

He's going for an xray and a visit to the surgeon this morning. I hope they put him in the hospital till the infections are gone. They probably won't, so if you all can see it in your heart to send up a few more prayers and healing thoughts, we'd be so grateful!

The funeral was this morning. It was beautiful, & it was the most heartbreaking thing I ever saw. Beautiful church, with beautiful flowers in tiers upon tiers, filling the entire end of the sanctuary where the pulpit was.. & 4 caskets, 1 just about half the size of the others. 3 ministers, 4 eulogies, 1 for a 6-year-old & 1 for a 3-year-old. What can you say in a eulogy for a first-grader? for a toddler? They said Michael was smart as a whip & loved the water & asked pointed questions & never met a stranger. They said little Landon was born in perpetual motion & brought a smile to every face. & Landon, a surprise baby, may have saved his mother's life: Had she not had a sonogram, the cancer that was growing inside her might not have been discovered until too late. Susie, this is a very hard thing to go through....both your brother and the family....I know first hand. After my mother's mother (my grandma obviously) passed away my mom had a very hard time and was suicidal. There were times I pleaded with her and followed her to the river to prevent her from jumping...and I was only 16 years old. It was one of the worst times of my life along with my mom's. I know on her deathbed she was ashamed of putting me through that......but I forgave her and told her I thought she was a great mom....and she shook her head 'no'.... ...anyway...not to make this about me. Take your brothers threats seriously and if you can do it and it would help get there...and whatever else just be supportive. ..oh on a sidenote my mom did get the shock therapy and that eventually did bring her out of her deep depression...although she got way more than she was supposed to and to this day I wonder if that contributed to her blindness later in life. It's just a helpless feeling and I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. Duane

Hello again Laurel, Greetngs from near London. Good thoughts going out and prayers for your brother and mother. I trust that things will go well with both. Frequently it is hard to come to terms with one's circumstances as one ages ... ... but sometimes our pride or determined (but outdated) self-image ... ... needs revising. If we stubbornly resist to amend our vision of ourselves - sometimes the price gets rather high. Too high, fairly frequently. Facts are facts - refusing to face them and operate in the light of their reality can lead us down some paths that prove to have been unwise, after a while! But - I don't need to tell you that! Thank you so much for the prayers. I know that they were heard and answered! Thank you Jesus. Dean had the surgery and they removed the blockage and put in a stint. He is doing well tonight and if things are good tomorrow he may be able to go home. Thank you again. I really,really believe in the power of prayer and put Dean on a lot of prayer lists. Laurel, Prayers for your brother and your family. Is he on oxygen? If not, it might make him more comfortable. And,if he can get same treatments at home, it really is better than being around all the different "germs" in a hospital, imho. Hugs for you all.

Laurel, I am sending healing thoughts and prayers for your brother. I hope the doctor will take an aggressive stand against the infection, even if it means hospitalization. Keep us posted on his progress. Hugs!

Keeping your brother in my thoughts and prayers. Infections can knock the beegeebers out of you and I hope they get him properly treated asap. He also needs to find out if he has developed a complication like pneumonia. That easily happens post surgery when people aren't active.

I'll be saying prayers for you brother Laurel. And for you Mom and you too. Waiting isn't always a good thing to do. My sister almost died a couple weeks ago from waiting.

Laurel, is it possible you can talk to his doctor? The doc doesn't necessarily know just badly out of breath your brother is or how bad the infection is. Sending good thoughts he is better very soon.

It wouldn't be too much of a surprise if he had another Pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Once you have one, it is more likely that you will have another. (I have had 3 before the surgery to repair it) Or, to have pneumonia because of his collapsed lung while in the hospital. I sure hope he gets a Dr. that knows what they are doing/looking for with this!!! Make SURE that he gets a chest x-ray...which I am sure they will.
