I am not very familiar with the fire, but here's a couple things to try that work on most android tablets. Hold down the power button for a very long time, some times that works, I mean a really long time 20 seconds usually. Then hit the power button again if it doesn't start right away.
Next hold down the power button and the volume up button together at the same time again for a long time. It will usually reset. If not plug in the charger leave it for 10-15 minutes, try doing all of the above steps with it still plugged in.
I don't know if it has a tiny reset button, usually have to stick a paper clip into the little hole to push it. Some tablets have one. Look at your manual to see if it shows one.

I got the new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 for Christmas and I've checked there for many of my questions. There's a search function or you can just post your question. Most of the questions are answered by Kindle owners but Amazon must moderate it because every now and then you'll see them post an answer.

Thank you for all of your help. I just got it unlocked. I don't know if I needed to do what you told me Raven first but after I had the volume turned up it told me to unlock it and then after I tried to slide it a couple of times and it still wouldn't work it said tap it twice and it unlocked. I tried the tapping again and it worked this time. Thank you again.

that is excellent news. All androids that I know of the volume thing and power together will trigger some type of response from the unit.

I still had to call amazon. I couldn't turn the pages in the book I was reading and couldn't play candy crush either. It was something about the setting was on voice command and it was reading the book to me. She told me how to turn that off and it works fine now. Ty again for your help

I always call Amazon when I have any problems with my Kindle Fire HD, but I have to deal with trying to understand the accents of the technicians. Only one, I reached a technician in South Africa, and he was easy to understand.
