I don't know how much shabby chic sheets cost, but surely you've spent that much already on sheets you don't like. Is your daughter unhappy in any of the sheets?

shermann - I was thinking the same thing. For the combined price of these three sheet sets (about $30 each) I might have paid close to what a more expensive set would cost, except not really.

I bought these three sets over the course of the past 4 years. We used the first two for a few years each, and I just purchased the JC Penney set. I'd like to have two sets on hand to make laundry day easier and paying over $200 or so for each set all at once is just too pricey.

My DD is very sensitive to fabrics, seams, etc., and still doesn't sleep well through the night. I keep hoping (dreaming) that the perfect sheet set will let us all get a little better rest. The whole Princess and the Pea thing :-)

At the same time, I really like the way the ruffled sheets look with her bed, so it would be nice if I could find them in a softer, brushed material. Most seem to be percale.

For $200. a pop, I think I could manage to launder the sheets and get them back on the bed in one day! In fact, I prefer to do it that way - no sheet folding and no need for storage space.

Are you sure the shabby chic sheets are soft enough for your daughter? If the sheets are really the issue, I'd concentrate on that rather than the ruffles. Her room is very pretty.

I'm not sure if the Shabby Chic sheets would be soft enough, but her dust ruffle if from the Shabby Chic line (bought 50% off when the stores closed) and it's a much softer percale than the others. They're also available in a linen. Sold separately though and expensive!

I like to change the beds all in one day also, but it's not always so easy to do when we have accidents on weeknights and I work the next day (one night a nosebleed that managed to get on every bedding surface, including the dust ruffle - poor thing fell off the bed and I think her daddy carried her all around the room in the dark before we realized).

I think I'll wash the JC Penney sheets a few more times and use fabric softener to see if they'll soften up. If not, I can always buy an extra sateen set and make the ruffle myself out of a flat sheet (trying hard to avoid that since sewing doesn't come easily to me).

Shabby Chic brand sheets are way softer than the SSC brand... and wear extremely well - washing after washing. The new stores are selling the Liliput white ruffle sheets. I think it's cotton, not linen. DD1 has some. I'll ask when I talk to her today if they are soft. They are the same as past white ruffled sheets, just a different name.

Why don't you just by soft sheets that have the plain hem, then get the ruffled eyelet or other trim that comes by the yard at the fabric store and add that? That would be simple straight sewing, as you wouldn't have to do the gathering yourself, and I think the eyelet is lovely and less bulky feeling. You could even add a pretty ribbon trim where the two meet for an even more feminine feel.

Hmmm, eyelet trim that comes already gathered - I didn't even know that was available. Thank you! I really didn't want to do any gathering - tried that when I was making a bedskirt for her room and ended up just buying the premade skirt in the end. Way too much material to deal with!

Thank you for checking with your daughter, Allison. I saw the Liliput when I visited the Rachel Ashwell site - the whole ensemble is so pretty! Maybe I could find a good deal on ebay for one set and then just add the eyelet to her sateen sheets so we'll have a standby.

Juddgirl2, DD1 said the Liliput is the exact fabric used previously and is very soft. You could check ebay for the old name at a discount, still in package from sale.

Check the thread count. Also, try washing in woolite or a perfume/color-free detergent.

Thanks, Allison. Do you happen to know the old name? A lot of the sheets on ebay just say Shabby Chic, but when I look closer they're the Simply Shabby Chic brand (and listed for much higher than Target, for some reason).

Cyn, the JC Penney sheets didn't show a thread count on the site or on the package. They are nicer than the Target brand though (softer and larger), and I'll try Woolite.

Lily white = color name

Try searching like this --> "shabby white ruffle"

to pull up that item online, with quotes. Can add --> + "lily white"

to be even more specific.
