Sounds like we have similar dogs and boys! I also received a request for "soft", color not important! We ordered jersey knit sheets from The Company Store (style was University Stripe). Only the bottom sheet comes in XL, but since my boy makes a "nest" out of his bedding, I didn't think that would be a problem. We haven't washed the sheets yet, so I can't make any guarantees, but they are very soft in the package - like a cozy t-shirt.

I was a freshman 10 years ago this fall (wow - time flies!). My mom helped me decorate my dorm room and we picked out a few sets of regular twin sheets - they worked out perfectly. I wouldn't get too hung up on finding twin XL. Most dorm mattresses are fairly thin and the elastic in the regular sheet set stretches to cover the mattress and mattress pad just fine.

I have an x-long twin mattress here at home and bought 350 count sheets at BB&B last year. Dd#2 has x-long mattress in her dorm & it's thick so regular sheets won't fit, but dd#1 had a regular sized mattress in her dorm even though it said in all the college literature that they would be x-long. So you might want to wait until he actually gets his room.

Another tip. When he does the first inventory thing of his room, noting what damage there is, don't just check the top of the mattress. Turn it over & see the bottom. Dd#2's mattress looked brand new on top and we didn't think to turn it over. But at the end of the year when she had to lower the bed back down to it's original height, we noticed a huge rip when we were under the bed holding the legs steady. Evidently the last person had ripped the mattress & just flipped it over.

A camera is also good to record any damage you find - a test all the plugs too.

My son is also picky about his sheets. For graduation he received t-shirt jersey type sheets. I didn't think they would fly, but he loves them so much he wanted some for home as well. I did buy a set this past summer although noticed they did shrink after washing. wig

My DD will be a college junior this year. I bought JCP XL twin sheets for her at the beginning of her freshman year. She also got sheets in her comforter packet, a high-quality set. The JCP sheets are much softer, and they are still in great shape.

Thanks everyone! It's no fun having a son going off to college. He won't shop, has no interest in anything other than what kind of TV he can have in his room. I asked him what color he'd like, and he said it didn't matter. I'm thinking about buying him hot pink as a joke. However, the joke would be on me since I'd have to return them...

I was on overstock.com last month and they had twin XL memory foam mattress pads, so I ordered him one because he loves his memory foam mattress topper on his bed at home. When I asked him if he wanted one for the dorm, he told me no, he'd just take the one he had. I said, how will that work since your bed now is a queen and your dorm will be a twin. It honestly hadn't occurred to him that it wouldn't fit.

I fear one day his wife will come to my house and just smack me. He's messy, leaves cupboards open as he makes himself a snack in the kitchen, leaves his shoes by the door, drapes his clothes on the kitchen chair/FR couch and it generally oblivious to his surroundings. When I yell at him, he picks the things up, closes the cupboards etc...but he does it again the next time. I've failed miserably to train this one well. At least he's not a punky teen. He's polite, hard working and does well in school. Just a nightmare to live with!!

At his college orientation session during the parent meeting we were all talking about parental concerns etc. and one parent commented that changing the sheets on these dorm loft beds was a nightmare. Knowing my son, I raised my hand and said - that's a big assumption that they will ever change their sheets. I'm hoping for once a quarter.

Caroleoh - I'm convinced we are the same person! I could have written the exact same description of my son, and yes, I'm sure his future wife will want to smack me too. But I tried.... oh how I tried, only to be labeled a nag! I'm sorry for you, but I am glad to know I'm not the only one living with this.

Ok, this is also my son. Wait until he is gone for the year and then comes back that first summer. You will have grown accustomed to a neat house and it will drive you crazy to have to give that up again! Well, maybe it is just me. My son's primary concern was the tv and stereo, and from what I hear he basically had to wade through his dorm room the floors were so covered. You begin to wonder what kind of bacteria/viral/molds grow in those dorms! I think a lot of the guys are like that...maybe girls too I don't know. wig

The funny thing about my son is he's very handsome so all my friends want me to try and fix their daughters up with my son. I keep trying to put them off with vague comments about him being hard to pin down etc.. In actuality, I feel the same as if a good friend wanted to buy my used car. You know overall it's solid, but it has a few quirks and occassionally won't start in the morning so for that reason don't want to unload it onto a good friend!!!

Fiona Buttercup Honey (a.k.a. Fifi) is not a mini. She is 2 years old and weighs about 55 lbs. She came from Glen Eden in Berryville, Virginia. She was a very, very naughty puppy, but is very sweet and good now after a solid year of behavior classes, and scary smart! Where did you get Rudy? Is he the typical high energy doodle? How old?

Where is your son going to college? What is he interested in studying?
Mine is going to Old Dominion University in Virginia and is interested in film - shooting, editing, directing. He's leaning toward a major in Communications (Mass Media) with a minor in filmmaking.

Oh, and I'm not in Ohio -- we live in Virginia. Oh well, it was fun being you for a while anyway.

It's not just boys. My girls always had to be prodded to clean their bathroom here at home & one dd told me the first year, the bathroom only got cleaned once a semester. She's gotten better since then and says if it's not cleaned every six weeks or so, she can't stand it.

I got Rudy at Doodlequest in Ky. He'll be 3 in December. Well, too bad you live so far away, it sounds like we could have been bosom buddies! Rudy is the best temperament dog I've ever had. I swear by poodle mixes. You get the best of what ever two breeds you mix! My parents have a Lhasapoo and Bo is the sweetest dog too. Rudy has calmed down alot, but his worst trait is he's way too friendly. He loves everyone and thinks anyone who comes to the house etc. is there to see only him. I swear that if someone broke into our house and tried to kill us, he'd be greeting them like they were his best friend. Definitely not the guard dog at all.

My son will be attending Ohio State in the fall. He's a golfer so will be playing for them on the golf team. He wants to be a pro golfer, but I tell him he needs to major in something productive since only a tiny fraction of college golfers go on to be on the tour. Not trying to be a downer on his dreams, just realistic. So, for now he's majoring in business - probably finance or marketing.

Marti8a, I'm hoping that he will find living in filth not up to what he's used to since he won't have me picking up after him all the time. I just hope his roommates don't kick him out before he reforms!!

I'm sure after he's moved out, I'll miss his messy ways, but I have two other boys still at home, so I will still have some mess, but when I look around, most of it is his!!

Well, that sounds exactly like my son, too! I've done all his shopping for him and he is not the least bit interested in what I'm buying. He did, however, ask for soft sheets! I'm sure they won't get washed until he comes home at Christmas. He keeps his room relatively clean, but will wear the same clothes for two days in a row and he's terrible about leaving food all over the house. He's off to LSU as a history major. I'm sure that will change numerous times. He's an only child, so I'm gearing up for some serious empty nest syndrome. Oh, I ended up with sheets from BB & B that are 300 count. Hope they are O.K.

Oooh! I have the PERFECT sheets! They are the sateen beech sheets from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They are SO soft and silky and hold up really well. They come in extra long, and if you look them up on eBay you can get really good deals. They also come in jersey knit, but the sateen ones are better.
