Where can I buy hinges that open only to 90 degrees?
Comments (13)organicgirl and Casey, I think I found what you were describing. Blum calls it a reduction clip and it reduces the opening to 86 degrees (and costs 38 cents!). I also found a Blum hinge for thick doors that opens only 95 deg. but I can't tell if it will fit the cutout for the hinge---the same issue Casey mentioned to Joseph. I sent both the reduction clip and the 95 deg. hinge to my cabinet installer but haven't heard back from him. Jewel-1, I will Google for 90 degree cabinet hinges. nhbaskets, that looks like a great alternative if I can't find the 90 deg. hinge---and you remind me that I have doors on either side of our cooktop mantel that should also either have 90 deg. hinges or the cable that you have! All of you are an amazing source of information! Thank you!...See MoreI Buy to Buy - How to Figure Out How to Fit It All In
Comments (8)Oceanna, I think many of those shows actually have very tight budgets - the real key is that the designers aren't personally invested in the space so it's a lot easier to buy something to stick on the wall - they don't have to live with it day in and day out like a homeowner would. Also some really junky stuff can look sumptuous on camera but tacky IRL. Although I do agree with you, Oceanna that some shows where the homeowner is paying for everything, some do have large budgets for art. Winker, you're in a tough spot. I would pull everything out and move things around to the rooms that you think they will work - keep moving things around until you have found some a "home". Consider storing the rest for a year or two and if you never use them, sell them. If you are brave, you can sell them right away to get that load off your shoulders. Tough love, sorry. If you have stuff you haven't used for two years - get rid of it now because it's likely you'll never use it. I know it's really hard sometimes to give this stuff up. I find TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Kirklands etc. are very dangerous stores so I usually avoid them like the plague or I'd find myself in the same trap you are in....See MoreHow do I alter a fitted king size sheet down to a queen size?
Comments (13)I know this is a response to a very old post. But Chromatic, if I understand this method correctly (pix would have helped on this site!) they suggest a seam down the center of the sheet. Pretty easy peasy. However, I think that would be a little unstable. During sleep, moving around may put too much stress on that stitched seam down the middle. I still think the best option would be to alter the corners. And I would also flat fell or enclose the corner seam again. Maybe that is the perfection seam"stress" (there may be a reason the word "stress" is at the end of seam in that word!) in me, but I think it is the better and more stable route. Now, the only other way I would do that middle seam option, is this. Follow steps 1 through 4 from the "King to Queen fitted sheet" site you recommend.(Make sure to pin your middle seam with just a little "give" or ease so it is not so tight it rips during sleep.) Now, after you sew the seam, don't cut it, but rather lay the excess fabric down onto the sewing line so you have the excess fabric spread equally on both sides. Like one big pleat. Pin in place and THEN sew a topstitch line down each side of the big pleat along the edge. And you are done. This will reinforce and protect that original middle seam. NO CUTTING involved! That is what I would do. Rosie...See MoreSink love: I've only seen it online, do I import & buy it anyway?
Comments (12)As someone said, V&B is a very fine company. Because of outsourcing practices these days, the only thing I'd do is make sure it's really made in Germany or at least Europe. To me it would be sad to import it, only to find out that they'd outsourced its production to China! Amazingly even the Germans are doing that. Just found a carry bag yesterday by a German company, only to see it was made in China. Sad state of things. Don't even get me started on the new Spode products now made in China... I have Spode mugs made in England that are 13 years old and have seen microwave and DW use all that time and are fine give or take a chip or loose handle, and I get a new one made in China three months ago, and all the glaze is already crazed/cracked. There IS a difference in things coming from China. OK I am stepping away from the soapbox......See Moremaire_cate
