Does anyone still do picture puzzles? Need info

I can't seem to find puzzles that interlock well.

The last two I got from Walmart (different brand names) are very flimsy and break apart as I'm making it.

I've found some online but not sure which are good.

Don't want to pay extra for postage if it's not what I'm looking for.

Hope someone can help.

Check garage sales, thrift shops auctions, or there are some that you can do on line, then you don't have to store them.
Also check Barnes and Noble, even Ace Hardware sometimes. Just google puzzles and you will get a big choice. At Christmas time they sold them in the Mall. Check toy stores, drug stores, Hallmark etc.

I like to order puzzles from Bits and Pieces ... I can always find something I like. They're more pricey than what you'd get at Wal-Mart, but the quality is considerably better. They will send paper catalogs if you like, or you can check it out online. And they frequently have sales on either the puzzles, or shipping.

Ohhh, when I added the link I just saw they're having a $5.99 sale ... gotta go look! LOL!

I actually ordered the cotton stuffing from Jinny Beyers' studio online last night. I got a notice just now saying it's expected delivery is tomorrow. Gotta love the semi-local gal!! (She's only about 45 miles away) Guess I can wait one more day! lol

Unfortunately, no. I have a little pebble-bottomed stream bed that goes from the downspout under the Japanese Maple, through the flower bed, to the lawn. It suffers from neglect. I looked at by pbase album and am ashamed to say that the garden looked better when the pictures were taken than they did this year. Two years of no energy or time left over for the garden have taken their toll. Plus, this spring, when one's fancy turns to gardens, I was being told I would have to dig mine up! Maybe next year.

Our whole house has them (they were here when we moved in), and I love them. Most of the plantation shutters here are 20+ years old; not many window treatments will last 20 years. Our old house had plantation shutters in the living and dining rooms and wood blinds everywhere else. The plantation shutters were a lot better! Sorry for the dim pictures and different sizes! Not only do they insulate in the summer and winter, but they are much more attractive than blinds and the expense is reduced by the amount I would have spent on window treatments. Does anyone still like wood toned furniture? (non painted furniture)

My grandfather was a carpenter. He was born in the 1880s. I don't know if that had anything to do with his taste or if it was the fact that he was a carpenter, but he did like nice wood finishes. He was of the school of thought that baseboards, door frames, and crown molding should be walnut or mahogany. When I was a little bitty girl, he made me a dresser, using a small washstand as a guide. My dresser had two wide drawers and a mirror. Papa made it out of scraps. The body of the dresser was an old Philco mahogany TV cabinet, the drawer fronts were really nice Walnut, the side pieces were some kind of veneer that eventually bubbled and buckled, and the supports for the mirror were probably fir. I got so excited when I saw it that I threw a fit and I *had* to take it home right away. The mirror frame was not yet finished, it was raw wood. The drawer fronts and side pieces were finished walnut, and the top was mahogany. Papa made my father promise to finish it. When I was 16 years old, it still was in its original condition...except for the small Beatles sticker in the corner of the mirror. I painted the dresser white. My mother shook her head and said, 'I'm glad Papa it's not here to see you painting that bewwwtiful wood." I still have that dresser. It is still white.

Right now is good time to buy jigsaw puzzles. The prices drop right after Christams. The problem is it getting too long after Christmas and a lot of puzzles have been sold off or taken off the shelves. Places where we have found decent puzzles:
Target
Walgreens
Fleet Farm

You can find puzzles at kiosks in shopping malls, but the price and quality may not match.

My wife has a closet full of puzzles. About once a year, she gathers up 6 or so and trades with someone in one of her women's meeting groups. Last year, we gave 10 puzzles to hospices and charity groups.

I just ordered 8 puzzles from Bits and Pieces. Another great source for quality puzzles is White Mountain. The best subject matter selection that I know of. W M's 1000 piece "Country Music Stars" is on our puzzle table now. I am fortunate to have a local store that stocks many of W M's puzzles and often has some on sale at half price, but I will order from their catalog too for something special.

I think you have to buy quality puzzles like White Mountain above or another is Ravensburger.

My favourite puzzles are the Springbok jigsaws. They are sold in Hallmark stores, that is the only place I have ever seen them. Ravensburg puzzles are good too.

I like Milton Bradley puzzles. Just finished a good quality one. Those can be found everywhere.
I have glued the back of puzzles, then added poster board, and kept them. They can be framed. I've done some of shells, etc. that I wanted to keep.
Good idea to donate ones not wanting to keep, to Hospice, or nursing homes.

I have been doing the Big Ben puzzles, found at Target. It does say on the end it's made by MB Puzzle. For some reason I prefer photographs to artsy watercolors...

Thrift stores might have missing pieces but they are the best.

Found some national geographic animal and sunflower ones at Aldi's last summer. Love them but they are HARD!!!!lol think they were $5 each and 1000 pieces

My sister and a good friend are really into what we call "jigsaw" puzzles. The best source of course is garage sales. Maybe a quarter apiece. Big deal if they're missing a piece or two.

I love jigsaws, but haven't bought one in years. These days, I prefer doing the ones on the Castle Mountain Website. They used to add one a day--now it's gotten pretty sporatic, but you can access all the past ones, so if you're just starting to use the website, you'd have lots of choices. The puzzles on this website are SO much like the real thing--only ones I've found online that are that close to doing an actual puzzle. only thing that's different? You don't have to turn the pieces rightside up before you start--LOL! Check it out, you may like it better than the cardboard ones, and it's free, so you save a lot of $$$
