Electrolux Washer questions

I have had the Electrolux Wave Touch Washer for a week now and after being told by electrolux customer service there is no drain trap to clean out (i called before we bought the set to ask about this specifically), i just found out there really is. Is this something that I need to worry about. We have a dog and cat and a small child so i am afraid the hair and small kid items might get caught. Our old washer had a baby sock stuck in it. We have the pair stacked in a small space so no easy access to it. Electrolux customer service said I would have to pay for a service call every 6 months to a year to have it cleaned. That is crazy! If that is the case, i will return them for a samsung set.

A second question....the gasket around in the washer is already warped. It does not lay the same all the way around. Kinda bubbles in a few places. Is this normal. The serviceman that came out today indicated that this is normal....just seems kinda crazy that it would be like that after only 1 week of use.

I really like this set just don't want it to nickle and dime us with service calls for regular maintenance. I hope that those with experience can help me decide whether to keep this set or return it for samsung.

I have the older model WaveTouch and you should not worry about hair in the drain trap.
I have a cat and the pump works flawlessly since 2009.
As for the gasket, it should be pulky @ the 10 and 2 O'Clock mark so it is normal.
Keep in mind that the tub is tilted towards the rear and most loads stays to the rear of tub except extra large loads where it may rub up against the door.

Thank you so much for your experience with this. That puts my mind at ease. The gasket in mine is not smooth at the 4 and 8 o'clock position but good to hear its normal for these machines. I really didn't believe the serviceman since it it different compared to other brands i've seen. And he said that I shouldn't be using powder detergent because it is bad for the machine. That made me wonder if he really knew his stuff or not. Everything that I have read on here says powder is the way to go to avoid buildup in the frontloaders. I have to say I am impressed so far with it and the ability for it to get stains out. Thanks again!

I have a newer Electrolux machine and can't find the manual. I was looking here for how to run the clean cycle - even though it prompts me and I just have to hit start. I couldn't remember what to add and where. I finally found someplace that said to add a cup of chlorine bleach to the detergent cup (after removing the insert for powdered detergent). I did, then turned the knob to "clean machine" and hit 'start'. I'm not sure what all it did, but it was very different from a regular cycle. The water was really being sloshed around hard in the machine and there were lots of suds. Since I didn't add any detergent, I assume that is from the machine running the hot water and bleach through all the guts of the dispensers that don't usually get that much hot water (or any bleach) run through them. If I had an older machine, I'd never be able to remember all those steps and would have to look every time.

Thanks fastonetime, so glad to read the review. This is my first choice washer/dryer when my now 15 year old top load Whirlpool dies. Cool to hear how the washer creates steam and that things are working great and your happy with your purchase. Have you used the More Water option and does it add more water to the wash AND the rinse or just one or the other? Just a heads up for others, there is an updated version to the Wavetouch coming out this September (I got that info. from Chris Polk). He said and I quote: "We do have a new line of laundry products that are scheduled to launch by the end of September. These will feature much of the same appearance and design, just a few additional cycle and setting choices that what is currently offered." Thanks for the review.

Hi; welcome to the world of non-bending over laundry ;-) Everything right at waist/chest level for me and the drawers are so spacious, just love it! In answer to your question about the shaking. Yes, mine does the very same thing, it will "wobble" a little upon ramping up to full spin speed. It seems like they're made so any vibration stays within the machine and doesn't transfer through the legs to the floor because with our old Kenmore HE3t, the whole house would feel and sound like a jet was taking off over the house and with the Electrolux, we really don't feel anything except with really heavy loads. Our washer is off of the kitchen with wood floor, so you know, if there was/is a lot of vibration, it will go right through the floor. I can't imagine having a FL without the pedestal - enjoy!

I was fortunate enough to see the 617 which our local mega dealer has on the floor. I am in NE Ohio. This machine certainly has eye catching appeal, and I don't get why no big box retailer dedicates floor space or stocks locally. Without seeing, touching, comparing, few buyers will purchase sight unseen. IMO the 70 series was feature laden with specialty cycles and stain treat options and a fantastic 3 slot custom memory. I get the impression Lux chucked the otherwise difficult to navigate interface of the 70 series, simplfied popular options, and gave it an overhaul chic appeal! It appears to be a very well built machine and drum looks to be identical to the 70 series. I am not so much sold on the detergent pre-mixing tank, especially if your a powered detergent or pod user. My concern is does the machine fill through the tank and effectively flush between uses, or is there a potential to have crud residue, and stench built up? Its difficult to differentiate between detergent and water in the sump, and sprayed on the load during fill as many machines do. The only advantage I see to the Lux system is perhaps a more complete mixing of detergent and water applied to the load uniformly. You could always bypass it and add product directly to the drum. My only other peeve is the display is not back lit and difficult to see, but not a deal breaker by any means. My overhaul impression is this machine is a winner and will have no problem compeating, that is providing the retailers allocate floorspace. It offers top tier features and P172 certificaton, at a price point (899.00) that is several hundred dollars less than the competion. I will look forward to actual usage reports.

I know a lady that bought a Frigidaire F/L washer and she said she was told she should only use liquid detergent. Maybe it is an Electrolux/Frigidaire thing??

I would get a mesh wash bag and wash all the baby socks in it just to be on the safe side.

Plus, I would use powder also.

Hmmmm...interesting. I don't trust liquid because we ended up with a stink problem in our old washer. Took a long time to start stinking but the only thing i can figure out after reading here is from the detergent. Going to stick with powder for now.

I have been using the mesh bag. Just afraid I will miss one since they are so small.

I don't have an E-lux washer, but our Miele front-load washer gasket has what might be called a ripple or wrinkle at the 8:00 and 4:00 places. It appeared after the first load of laundry. It's not a problem, our machine is 18 months old, and everything works well.

Our machine has a clean-out trap also. I check it, but have never found anything except a bit of dirt or grunge. Dog hair (she sheds a LOT) sort of sticks to stuff and shows up on the dryer filter instead.
