I agree, wash them (which I would do anyway because mine usually have grit from the garden dirt), and cut away bitten or scratched places and use 'em. They're fine.

Homegrown produce is seldom perfect, although we've been brainwashed to think it should be. Frankly, I think that your own homegrown (even animal tasted and tested) is probably far healthier, safer and cleaner than the stuff on the store shelf that raised halfway across the country (or the world), shipped to us in trucks, full of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, and handled by who knows how many farm workers, produce packers, truck drivers, shelf stockers.

Yup, wash it, trim it and enjoy it.

The repellent is just Garlic, Egg, some red pepper and
water, Then Strained.
Put it in a Squirt Bottle and Squirt a little on your Plants.

I tested it on a pile of Corn. The deer wouldn't go near it.

I'll put it in anyway , Later. Maybe Someone else can use it on their plants.

Have to make a monster batch of Spaghetti Meat Sauce.

First I have to mop up the Kitchen.
I was Blending Whole Tomatoes and turned the bottom of the Blender the wrong way.

Tomatoes everywhere. I took Photo's.

" Repellent " for
Deer and maybe some other Critters,

Recipe:
In about a Quart of water , Boil 5 or 6 Garlic Cloves or
2 Tablespoons of Garlic Powder and
a teaspoon of Red Pepper. For 10 minutes.

Let it cool. Add a beaten Egg or 2 Tablespoons of Powdered Eggs..
Beat this good and pass it thru a Cheese Cloth. I use a piece of T shirt.

Put this in a " Spray or Stream " ,Bottle.

If you have a fence around the Garden , Squirt the fence
too. plus the Vegetables.
If it rains do it again, when it stops.

Annie:
Give it a try. You don't have to do your mile of Fence.
I do my Flowers and Plants, it keeps them, at bay.

Try some of the vegetables to see if it works.

Lou, I don't have a problem with deer in the garden, my sister's yappy little pug dog keeps them pretty much out of the yard, with help from her terrible twin daughters, Autumn and Summer. Yeah, really. Even the family tries to stay away from the twins, a fully grown grizzly wouldn't have a chance against the Twin Terrors!

I need to keep deer out of my pasture and away from my hay feeders and mineral blocks and keep them from just blasting through my fence and breaking it all down, and that's why I would need to spray a mile of fence.

I have eaten tomatoes that a bird has pecked, potatoes nicked by the shovel. I have even snatched a steak from a dog's mouth, rinsed and eaten it!
Digestive enzymes destroy a lot of crud.

...so reporting back that I did not kill anybody with my rabid zucchini Parmesan and also that I like eggplant parm better:)

Now...my in-laws will be visiting soon...maybe I leave some zucchini outside for a while...;) nah, it's all luv:)

We have problems with deer. They like to sample green tomatoes. They take a bite,decide they don't like it and drop it on the ground. Then they go on to another....and another. When I check my garden in the morning I find tomatoes, all with just one bite, scattered about my garden. In the process the deer have knocked over the tomato cages and nibbled half of the foliage. Repellents don't seem to work right now as the 3 years of drought has made them desperate.
