Miele W1213 problem
Comments (10)@patty_2006 - Nothing has happened with my machine, because I stay on top of the sudsing, which was part of my learning curve with this machine (our first FL washer) and figured out the right dose for my machine and water. Too much detergent, as well as additives, can ruin the spider and the insides of a washer. Detergent and fabric softener residue can also cause the dreaded mold problem. In spite of my Miele Owner's Manual stating to 'closely follow the detergent manufacturer's suggestions,' the guys at Miele USA's 1-800 tell me to use 1/4 of whatever the detergent packaging says, as a starting point, and adjust up as needed. (that old "YMMV") Using a one-fourth dose is also what my salesperson told me, as well as the technician who came out for an unrelated minor repair. THOSE guys know our local water. Which temperature(s) are you washing your whites, etc.? We can't help you without more info on that. Two TBSP of Persil might be too much for your water quality. My Miele is a super-large-capacity (approx 3.5 to 4 cu. ft) which is (I think) only slightly larger than your machine's capacity. When the drum is 1/2 full with dry laundry, I use only 10ml/1 tsp. of Persil. That is the amount that works with our water quality, which is med/hard. Any more detergent, and I see suds in the final rinse and waste a lot of water trying to get it out of my laundry. Truth is stranger than fiction, but there you have it. Detergent residue/build-up can cause dingy whites. It also makes clothing/everything scratchy. Now that the old pre-FL detergent residue is gone and I have my dosing figured out, everything comes out of my Miele W&D so soft, that I don't know why anyone would need fabric softener. Does your Miele have an "Extend" feature, to make the wash cycle last longer? Try that with a warmer water setting and less detergent. Have you read the thread linked below? Comments (19)The word Prewash says it all. Prewash ÃÂ is pretty self explanatory versus Heavy Soil. In this case I think Miele (in their efforts to make their product easy to use/understand) meant to sub-label the Prewash button with Heavy Soil to make sense out of this wash option and the Heavy Soil detergent compartment (which is still labeled Heavy Soil), and someone in their development team accidentally sub-labeled the Extended button instead. ÃÂ I was playing around with my friends' W4842 and tested the Prewash button and it does exactly that - a prewash that takes the detergent from the Heavy Soil detergent compartment.ÃÂ Not a major issue but I will probably wait until Miele prints their control panels correctly before I hunker down the big bucks. Suppose it is my retentiveness. Now if only Miele would relabel "Sensitive" to "Extra Rinse."...See MoreMiele W1215 - Pros & Cons?
Comments (9)bump I couldn't find much info while looking for a 220 machine, so...this may help someone else. Well, I just got a set of floor models from a distributor's showroomÂyay! I've been waiting until I could go back to a front-loader and had been looking at the Asko, Fagor, AXXIS, Blomberg, and Ariston. This one is more than I expected to get, what a beauty and what a stroke of good luck to find them! I got my first FL, a simple Italian machine with a 1.48 cu ft capacity, stainless drum, 800 rpm spin, etc. in 1981 and used it until 1995. It handled babies through early teens just fine. As the kids got older with larger clothes, constant sports, and more changes, I got a stacked Frigidaire Gallery set for the larger capacity of its TL washer in the same space. Its only problems were being a real pain for my husband to move when necessary, not being as efficient as the FL, and not getting the wash as clean as the FL...but it has worked as well as it could. None of my W/D sets have ever failed and have never required anything but small repairs or maintenance. For that matter, my daughter's Asko is doing fine at 10 yrs old too. The 2.5 cu ft (or more) size of the 1215 will take anything I normally wash including the king duvet cover which was about the only thing I couldn't fit into my old FL. It took the twin covers, of course. I don't like to wash the actual duvets as it kills the down, so I just keep them covered to prevent body oils, etc. from getting into them, then keep those covers clean. I'm looking forward to having the internal heater, especially for towels and sheets. We installed a gas demand hot water heater in the house where we first used the old FL, so had the equivalent in that situation. Being on a lovely spring didn't hurt either. In the current house, we're still on its original electric heater and the difference with the same machine was noticeable, and then more so with the TL. I don't like using bleach, and I'm really tired of "not quite..." Given how well the Miele is supposed to clean, I doubt that I'll be needing an extra rinse and spin cycle which is mostly what I have used that for with the TL. Just in case, though, I'd like to know the workaround for getting the machine to do that. Having a dryer which can sense the moisture of the load and not over dry is the other big change...and being able to shut off the alarm...and the delay start...and the extra tumbling to keep down the wrinkles...and the stainless steel and solid build quality...mmm...it's all good! This is 2009 and the 220v Miele set is still listed and available if you look around...or hunt down another Euro machine which offers it. The difference between my old FL and the 1215 might best be described by comparing them to the old VW Transporter we drove then and today's BMW...both great for their time....See MoreGE Washer-Can't change cleaning modes w/o draining!!!
Comments (27)I'm surprised that MJ McPherson's non answer is the top answer. Gary didn't ask if anyone is so structured in their laundry regiment that they never make a mistake or have the need to change cycles once they have started a wash load. I have the same problem with the HydroWave washer where I have paused it to soak for a period of time or switched cycles and lost 15 gallons of water and all that soap when it automatically drained and reset. Very frustrating when it is supposedly a smart and efficient washer. I was hoping someone would have a helpful answer and not a lecture....See More- 16 years ago
