Our 16 yo GS, Nathan, broke his arm yesterday at a wrestling tournament. He won his first match and this happened 10 seconds into his 2nd match. Four years ago he had a spot on his arm right where the break occured. They never could figure out what it was and the doctors just referred to it as "the thing". Then it just disappeared. They won't be able to set it until sometime later in the week. They put a splint on it for the time being. He is in quite a bit of pain even with the medications. We are hoping that "the thing" has not returned and that is what caused the break.

You got it Betty.Praying that "the thing" had nothing to do with it and that he will be feeling better in no time.
My 8 year old DGS broke his just above the elbow Tuesday evening.Doc said it was pretty bad and sent him to the orthopedic surgeon to possibly have a pin put in it.They set it Thursday with no problems.Hopefully your DGS's will be just as uneventful.

Oh Lydia I think what you're doing is wonderful. I am not sure the people in my DSIL Steve's life knew what a blessing they were to DD and Steve. I think you're doing fine, just be there, help with what you can and listen and pray with her!! Sending my best to your friend and lots of hugs for you both.

Not going well tonight at all. I don't even know where to go at this point. She is an adult and I obviously can talk til I am blue in the face and she will do what she wants. I can't see her live this way!!! I know I can't let her use me as a crutch either. I am pretty sure she is upset with both DB and I. She left with her dog 5 hours ago. I have her car keys so they are on foot. I don't know if she will come here in the middle of the night or tomorrow or what? We lock our doors when we go to bed, so then what? My head hurts so bad....its only been 2 days I'm not sure I can live like this for a month which is what it will be until she can find a place to live.

Carol. Thanks. I will update this after his orthopedic appointment.
Lilliepad...so sorry about your DGS. Nathans break was just below the shoulder. It went through the bone diagonally about 2 1/2 or 3 inches below the shoulder.

Oh gosh! I feel for him!
Sometimes they don't want to try and do anything til the swelling goes down. At least before doing surgery on DD#1's ankle thats what they told us.
I am sending good strong healing thoughts for your DGS! A few hugs for Gramma too! I know how you worry.

Isn't that in the "growth" area?

A few years ago my oldest grandson broke his leg about 3 inches from the hip socket. They said it was in the growth area. Evidently the growth area is not as strong.

They did surgery on him and put two plates in which they later had to go in again and remove because the bone was growing out around it.

But he is now 21 and has no problem with it.

Good luck to your grandson...

I think we worry even more about these grandkids than we did their parents....lol

Oh what a bummer Betty. My DGS Nathan (15 1/2)is a wrestler too. (and a good one if I do say so). I'll keep your Nathan in my prayers.

Sure will be hoping "the thing" hasn't returned and he'll get all patched up and back on the mat very soon Betty.

Thank you all so much. His mother is going to call the orthopedics office at 8 am tomorrow. They live 2 hours north of us but the tournament was down here. The doctor he had in the ER was the one that was in charge of EMT's and we really like him. Gave us a lot of comfort.
