Hate my new LG washer...been a couple months, though
Comments (16)Agree with "hvtech42" ... I'd never go back to a top loader. The wash time may be longer, but the dry time is cut in half due to the more efficient spin cycle and my clothes are not only cleaner, but it's gentler on them. I also do less laundry with our front loader than I did with our top, because more fits and still gets clean. Based on owning the same laundry baskets then and now, I can safely say I can fit twice as many clothes in our current LG as I could our old top loader. For me a longer wash time trade off is well worth it. (Oh, and it also has a speed cycle, if you need it, which runs just 25-35 minutes.) The water savings, particularly since we live in a place where water can be pricey, is also nice, not to mention better for the world. I also don't find running an occasional clean cycle with an empty washer particularly taxing, or fussy, but those things are, I know, in the eye of the beholder. (All major appliances require some level of basic maintenance though, to keep running smoothly.) As for longevity, our original front loader, a Kenmore HEt2, lasted a decade, which was at least the equal of our previous top loader. In fact, it's still working at a friend's who took it over and did the $400 repair it needed. For us, one of the biggest benefits is that we can easily wash very large items, like our king size comforters, without fear of tearing or damage. Our old top loader did in 3-4 expensive comforters over the years, to the point we actually paid $10-$15 a time to professionally launder them which was not only expensive but a major PITA. On that qualification alone, the top loaders have paid for themselves time and again. This isn't to say that those who adore their top loaders are wrong, but I'd hardly say front loaders are a failed product either....See MoreTop vs Front Loading Washers
Comments (47)The problem of today's market is that sometimes you have to sacrifice something for another. A couple of reasons for the development of front loader washers is eco-friendliness and space-savings. Eco-friendly in the sense that the front loader uses less water and therefore less detergent. They are also a space-saver because of the ability to stack the dryer on top of the washer, install them in a closet space or even under a kitchen cabinet (like the ones that ASKO produces - http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/W6984FI.html?brand_store=1). But then again there are companies out there that are taking the "less water" concept into consideration when developing top load washers. Take for example, WA42T26GW1 from Fisher & Paykel (I found it here - http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/WA42T26GW1.html) which has an auto water level that senses the size of the load and selects the optimum water level automatically, eliminating water wastage and fabric damage caused by too little water. The only thing is that you can't stack it, but if that isn't a problem for you then it doesn't matter. I use to own a top load before converting to my Electrolux Wave Touch machines, and my machine use to emit a nasty smell (well, maybe not nasty but definitely not pleasant) after a couple of weeks of use and I use to hate cleaning the dispensers which use to get all greased up and nasty (I tend to use this word alot!). So smell there always will be whether you use a front load or a top load. And cleaning the tub is definitely not that difficult as my machine reminds me when I need to do it and all I have to do is run a cleaning cycle with bleach. Like PC vs Mac, there will always be arguments around which one is the best and it will always come down to which one YOU are most comfortable with....See Morechosing a new electrolux or fridgdaire washer. need input!
Comments (19)One of the biggest problems is the delivery personnel! 1. When the truck arrive, keep in box. 2. Once inside unpack and install pedestal. 3. Remove shipping bolts and hookup hoses. 4. Adjust feet's until all for corners are set firmly. 5. Test machine/start up routine. 6. Do a load of towels and spin on minimum or low to see which feet needs adjustment before locking legs. Sorry to hear you had two lemons without sweetener and stepping down to the IQ may or may not make a big difference if problems is caused by shipping. Good luck and keep us posted!...See MoreFront Loader Washer = No Mold; Does One Exist
Comments (100)millmacc, I wonder if it is your water supply. I know where I live in TX there is so much limestone and the water is extremely hard. Even with a water softener there is more buildup than I would like. I have kicked around installing a whole home water filtration system. We have a filter on the refrigerator and I notice the difference in taste in water from it versus other faucets. We do have a water osmosis system but I have never really delved into why they installed it since it seems to be only at the refrigerator and kitchen sink....See Morechipshot
