Good going! Our farmers market was not well populated this a.m. There was a threat of rain so vendors and customers failed to show. 'Cept me, of course! Peaches, eggplant, cucumbers and bing cherries. My diet is limited right now due to GERD but fruit works fine!

How wonderful! Congratulations! You left with some great things too. I just read your dulcimer thread and one of my first thoughts was how cool it would be if you played the dulcimer at the market - you would draw even more people to buy your baked treats. I wish you were at our farmers market where the baked things are on a much more commercial scale with the items sold by owners of small bakeries. They meet the guidelines for the market, but not exactly homemade.

Thanks, Lee! Don't think I am quite ready to play the dulcimer at the market yet. Bill (my dulcimer mentor and friend) said the same thing at the market this morning, but I told him I wasn't quite ready for that yet.

He did tell me about a teacher two counties over and we talked about the Winston-Salem dulcimer festival each spring where I could also take classes, but that won't come around again until May of next year. I will probably go to the NC mountains one Saturday in August to check out 3 different makes of hammered dulcimers and perhaps purchase one of them. Can't wait!

Another who loves to hear about your market day.

The framers market near the cottage runs from 1 PM until 4PM on Fridays, which is weird to me, but they are trying to capture the cottage bound crowd. Not enough local population to make it worthwhile.

There is a fellow there that sells bread. He always changes up what he has but basically he makes a French style bread, a whole wheat or multi grain bread, a foccacia, cheese bread or herb bread, some sort of roll and a sweet bread of some sort. I'm skeptical that he is really making it all himself but no matter it's wonderful bread.

The line up is always 20 people deep and he's done in an hour! I'll take pictures next time.

Great job, Teresa! I wish you were at our farmer's market, too! There is usually a vendor that sells bread, but like Lee's they are a small bakery, not an individual.

Way to go, Teresa! It must feel good to sell out. The good weather helps both the venders feel better, and the customers, which doesn't hurt, either, but I bet the main reason is that people are getting to know where to buy their bread.

You are something, this sounds like so much fun! So if you aren't at the market, do customers ask other vendors where you are? i.e. Do you have a following?

Yes, I think after two previous seasons that I do have a following of half a dozen or more regular customers. But, of course, many of them do not come to the market every Saturday. I want to try to bake more to take each market day, but time is a big factor. I want the bread to be as fresh as it can be, but I only have two nights after work to bake. Tea loaves could be made on Wed. night and kept refrigerated as they improve with the keeping. I don't like to freeze anything that I plan to sell - that's just me.

If any of you have suggestions, I am open. Just please keep in mind that I work full 8 hour days, 5 days a week. I hope to make lemon bread and cinnamon rolls for next Saturday's market in addition to the regular loaves that I make.

Hey, you want fresh--you could bring a Nesco and cook loaves in it while manning your booth.

Teresa, I'll bet as the summer progesses you'll have more and more customers. I also think the dulcimer music will draw people to see what you are doing and maybe get some more customers.

Boy, that working for a living really interferes with our other ventures, doesn't it? I keep wondering why we were born brilliant and beautiful instead of rich.....
