La Cornue or Aga?
Comments (3)The traditional AGAs cooker with the "always on" components are almost a lifestyle choice. Once you research how you like (or dislike) these differences, a comparison is easier. Of the Aga DF ranges, you can see deeageaux's ranking in a similar thread. I have a CornuFe Albertine, which I'm very pleased with thus far (a few months in). This is the single oven model, which afford more continuous interior space. The low end control is great and surprisingly even for a closed burner top. The high end power is more than sufficient, thus far, for my needs....See MoreFunction/Reliability/Service of La Cornue CornuFe110 or AlberTine
Comments (62)We've had ours for 7 years now (pic way up above) and I do love it. HOWEVER... one side of our oven broke in September (the convection element needs to be replaced), and the part to replace it still has not come in - 4 months later we are still waiting. The warranty is 5 years, so we are out of luck with La Cornue working with us and have to rely on our local retail establishment for service work. The oven sizes are fine, unless you plan on doing a giant turkey. We've done an 18 lb turkey no problem, and I love doing roasters in it. Cleaning - the ovens have sides - top and bottom as well - that remove for cleaning so it's not a complete nightmare. But if you are used to self-cleaning ovens you may not like it. All that being said, we are overall happy with it. But if we ever need another oven, I doubt I would go with the same brand only because service has been very difficult. Good luck!...See MoreLa Cornue CornuFe Reviews Wanted
Comments (26)Huruta - Thanks for responding. I'm getting a French Blue Chagny. Lacanche colors are wonderful and look even better than on the web or the brochure. If anyone is considering a Lachance, try and get to the showroom to check them out. I have a question about your vent a hood. The Lacanche website says that the vent should be a 24-27" deep and vent a hood only comes 19 or 22" deep. To be honest, I'm having an very hard time finding one that is even 24" deep let alone 27" deep. Is the minimal depth been a problem or issue for you? This has been the only hold up on finalizing the kitchen and I'm wondering if I'm being overly worried about something that really isn't an issue. Our vent will be installed at the same height as yours since I, too, have a tall husband. I'm also trying to figure out if it can be wired so that I can regulate the vent from a switch on the wall so that I'm not reaching over a hot oven to turn up/down the vent while cooking. I have some height issues and it is definitely as stretch for me to reach that high. Our designer hasn't been of any help in this area and says it "should" be fine. This is going to be my forever kitchen and my husband has already made it very clear that there are no re-dos so I need to get it right the first time....See Morela Cornu range used
Comments (30)Even on a 30-y-o unit, a La Cornue should have electric ignition like our Lacanche ranges (another post on Houzz on a 1990 unit refers to this). Press the knob or a separate switch, and you get a spark at each burner. If that's the case, and this one needs to be ignited manually, then the ignition module is defective (not very expensive part and likely easy to replace before the stove is installed again) Otherwise, if "the propane must be hand lit" means that you have to reach for the matches or BBQ igniter every time you want to start a burner or the gas oven, it's definitely something to be aware of, and for you to decide if the low price / wow factor is worth it. All the best! Patrick...See MoreCircus Peanut
