I'm in Canada and the days just started getting cold and short. The plant use to be by a north window in the kitchen, but with the summer ending it wasn't getting enough sun so I moved it over to the other side of the house. It's a few feet from sliding doors with a south exposure. I think you hit the nail on the head with the temperature. For a few days, before we turned on the heat, the house was at 17-18C, definitely not tropical weather. We also opened the sliding doors a few times, but won't be using it during the winter. The heat is on now so I hope things will go back to normal.

Debra, Cindy had done well for the last few years, but I believe it was slow to get started. I hope it improves for you. Mine started scaping a few days ago, I keep pulling yarrow and another plant that seems determined to crowd it. Hillbilly Heart should get taller for you, not a tall one, but definitely better than that. As for the ones you sent, unfortunately our neighbors dog, at least something big, got into Jungle Pri cess and heavens Applause and dug those as well as a couple others last fall. I was away for several days and too late to revive any roots, although I tried. Whatever dug them up, unlike the raccoon, totally shredded the plants. You also sent Lavender Stardust I think, and it is looking very good, no scapes yet but i think it will. Last year was a bad time for daylilies for me, between the late freeze, raccoon, moles, and that darn dog! Last year the raccoon went away after a bit. But this year he is hanging around. At least when he digs up a daylily, it is not damaged, just lying to the side. When I dig in the yard I rarely find grubs, so I am not sure what they are going after. And now there is a chipmunk living under my deck. I own 2 cats, and 2 other neighboring cats live spend all their time on my deck. I look out my door and a chipmunk is just sitting, checking out my plants. Sigh.

Hi All! My flamingo flower seems to be ailing :( It seems like it has some kind of infection… The stems start getting brown from the soil up and then eventually the leaf/flower succumbs. When it does, it’s filled with some kind of puss and is super delicate/falls apart. In the winter months, I've been watering it approximately every two weeks; only when it looks and feels dry/light. (I've only had it since end of October so we have been on "winter watering" schedule the entire time I've had it...) It’s not next to any heaters and it gets moderate light. I've kept it away from heaters because I know it likes moisture... It's pretty cold and dark where I am -- could it be that it's too cold? I occasionally mist it for moisture. Please help before it's too late! :( -Vivianne

I have it in tree rose. I like it a lot despite the lack of fragrance and it's pretty thorny. I'll see if I can find a photo. Carla in Sac
