I am a cosmetic junkie, always use primer, go to any makeup counter, drugstore, or department store and ask for help. Any counter will give you the best product for your skin, they want you as a customer for life! If you don't look good, they don't either.

Usually I just buy my makeup at the supermarket or drugstore but I've been using Aveda tinted moisturizer as a foundation for quite a whiile. It's a foundation, moisturizer and SPF 15 all in one. We have an Aveda store in my local mall.

I'm like Terilyn, I love cosmetics. Do you have a Sephora near you? I really like them, they have a variety of cosmetics and are often in Penney's if you don't have a Sephora store. I use Lancome for most of my skincare and foundation and always use a primer. In summer I use Mally's powder foundation, but it is too drying for me in winter.

I use Estee Lauder products on my face, but no make up. Just never got in to make up... 99% of the time not even lip stick.

I was looking for foundation yesterday after not wearing makeup for years now (I'm 48 years old), but man there are so many chemicals in the brands I was looking at, and I hate to put it on my skin. I'm looking for gluten-free products, too, so it's a challenge to find something that doesn't look toxic - lol.

I also have never ever used foundation. I tried it once and it felt like theatrical grease paint. Yuck. I had acne as a teen. Now I have a few wrinkles but my skin is generally good. I had a much-older cousin, who passed in her 80's with beautiful skin, pale and unlined, but a beautiful natural blush on her checks. Her "secret" was she washed her face only with Ivory Soap.

I'm 55 and have used Bare Escentuals for years. It is still working fine on my now-older skin, goes on very lightly with a brush, and it is all natural in terms of ingredients. There are a number of threads on foundation in the beauty and fashion forum.

Like the diet & health issue, this one should factor in genes, too. I avoid Ivory Soap like the plague! LOL I haven't used soap on my face since pre-adolescence. Nor do I use foundation. But I am a moisturizer freak!

I can't brag that I'm wrinkle-free . . . over the past year or two I've developed them in various places on my face. But since they took so long to appear (I'm 68) I feel pretty lucky.

63 y/o with dry and and blotchy skin here (its that Irish skin, thanks Mom) - wash with Cetaphil and then use Cetaphil moisturizer. I use Bare Escentuals makeup. When you buff that mineral makeup on, it gives the best coverage which I need, maybe you don't but I sure do! I love it.

I like Origins foundation for when I do use it. If you have a store near you, they'll match the perfect shade for you.

Try a foundation brush too. I find it really helps to blend and you can avoid the "settling" of makeup in fine lines. Plus you end up using less so it's more cost effective! And it's kind of fun to literally paint your face, haha.

I agree--I love putting on makeup (except for foundation). I like to think it reflects my inner artist. But as I get older (and have seen some overly made-up older women) I hope it never reflects my inner clown. LOL

No, wait--I don't have an inner clown. I don't like clowns.

I never wore foundation in my life. I hate the way it feels. I use a very strong moisturizer since I have very dry skin. I used to use Vaseline on my face till I found this product which contains petroleum jelly. I use a sheer cream blush and that's it but a little lipstick and cream eye shadow. No powder of any kind.

My skin is blotchy..thats why I feel I need some kind of foundation to even up the color. I live in the country and am not close to any malls..so hard to get any professional help.

I have used Estee Lauder and Lancome but the brand that I am using now is Clinique and I think that is the best for my skin. It is the dewey smooth anti-aging makeup and it does not feel heavy like some others. Check with your department stores and ask for samples from any of these makeup companies. That way you can try before you buy and it really helps as they also suggest a shade for your skin.

I'm 50 and up until my mid 40's I had oil skin. I'm native american and hispanic so it tends to go with the genetics. It's helped tremendously with the aging as far as wrinkles go, I don't have many. Now though as I have gone into the 50's and menopause it's just the opposite. I have always used Estee Lauder, especially love the night time moisturizers/serums etc. I tried the foundation last September, went to Boston Store to speak with one of the reps for Estee Lauder and was terribly unsatisfied. I told her I was looking for the "glow", didn't want a heavy foundation and powder. She suggested a thick heavy foundation for which I tried 2 days. Returned it right away. Gave me another foundation which I'm not happy with either. I'm going to go back to the department store, find a middle age women rep for any of the companies in the store and see what she uses. The young lady I had twice was maybe 24 -24 and I don't think understood at all what I was trying to achieve. I do think the department stores are the best way to go, those reps will do what it takes to get and keep your business. They will generally take the time to assist you and they also hold free make up days where you can go and have your make up done.

I like to wash my makeup off or else I get pimples. Cetaphil is wonderful and leaves your skin feeling silky. I will also use soap too.

I like Prescriptives base make up because it goes on in a thin layer and doesn't feel like I have makeup on. I also have use Bare Essenctuals, which is sheer too. You need the right application brushes for BE.

LONG-time skin-care addict here; and find that well cared for skin rarely requires "make-up". I clean and moisturize daily with gentle cleanser (cetaphil) and moisturize with Bohrges/Kirkland from Costco also has SPF ?. I also use their new anti aging 'serum' and have for several years. Seventy-eight and few wrinkles, and I do use their "powder" with a brush if I am going anywhere special. Now, lip color is a whole 'other' subject that is harder to find. That can really make one look 'clownish' if it isn't 'right'.

A few months ago (Costco was out of my usual stuff) I tried one of those "expensive" anti aging things. Brought it home and read the list of chemicals, which I pondered for
awhile, and decided that there were just too many to take a chance on even trying. Back it went.
