Yes he did!!! And I was so upset about that. I'm not superstitious, but she was and I thought that was "stepping over a line." I could tell she was quite upset about it, but she managed to keep her composure in spite of it all.

Everything she picked was bad after that!

Oh, no!! I was sure he had smashed something else, and would give the piggy bank back to her later. I could tell she was upset, too. There was a quiver in her voice.

And yet sometimes I think the game should be called Greed because that's such a huge factor in it. Greed or Completely Unrealistic Optimism.

After the piggy bank was smashed, the next 2 cases picked were the other two million dollar cases. Then the next one was the 400,000, which was the only good one left. After that there was nothing left to do but play it out.

I would have loved to see her win big.

I would have, too. She seemed really nice. But it always amazes me when people turn down $200,000+, seemingly certain they will get more.

I'm still amazed that he broke her piggy bank....

I was rooting for her and then she got greedy. I was clicking back and forth to watch election returns and i thought she seemed nice. I never root for the ones who scream and dance and make asses of themselves. But she could have had almost a quarter million dollars but that wasn't enough. When you get a high offer like that ,you need to take it and not try for more. She got one penny. I don't know if anyone ever won the million.

I didn't see the show at all tonight. Will someone please explain what the (broken) piggy bank is all about? I'm guessing that this female contestant brought along a piggy bank and that it got broken? Is that correct? Who broke it, and how? Was it an accident or intentional?

And, for what it's worth, I, too, often think the contestants seem rather greedy. I mean, they came into the game with nothing; and although it would be way cool to win a million dollars, I'd be mighty happy with an extra $20,000 right about now, so I could give it to my younger sister to help her towards getting another car (she was rear-ended on the freeway on New Year's night, and it totaled her car).

One of the "Deal Girls" came out and took the piggy bank from the contestant and took it up to the banker. The shadow of the Banker looked like he "broke the bank" with a hammer. I doubt he really did.

She got greedy and ended up with 1 cent. She could have at least taken the last offer of $4,000.

But what prompted the "Deal girl" to come out and take the woman's piggy bank?

The Banker said he wanted to see it. Then when it was brought to him he took out a hammer and smashed it. I was sure he had smashed something else and would produce the piggy bank later in the show. But apparently not.

Hmmmm..... sounds like perhaps it was a setup. How would he just happen to have a hammer up there in his little banking room?

They set up a lot of stuff in advance on that show. They bring in the fire company if the guy is a fire fighter, or the whole cheerleading squad if the woman is a cheerleader, and so on. They do it to surprise the contestant, and they clearly know a lot about them in advance. Like the woman who was crazy for Broadway musicals, especially Wicked. They set up an offer for her that involved a walk-on part in the show. She (wisely) took it.

So in this case they probably knew the contestant was going to bring her good luck piggy bank.

I was thinking that it would have been terrible if that piggy bank had great sentimental value to her. I was thinking maybe they just had another piggy bank that they busted and not really hers. I can't imagine them distroying someone's belongings without asking. I wouldn't have been pleased with that at all.
I felt sorry for her having only won a penny. Yikes!
