I just have to share this with people who will appreciate this.

Without any preplanning I tore my bathroom (and kitchen) down to studs and now they are both back up to the drywall/greenwall stage.

I've been looking (and looking and looking) for an old claw foot tub that would give some character to my bathroom (9'x ~7').

There was an ad on craigs list last week for a relatively new (~two year old)slipper tub. $500. it looked pretty in the picture but more modern than I was wanting. I'm not enamored of the bright shiney silver feet but I do love a slipper tub.

When I went up to see it I decided what the heck, I'll buy it, I can always sell it if I find something that I like better. The owners had donated it to a church rummage sale and placed it on craigs list. The tub has been used 3 times. Everyone preferred showering. I'm not sure why they didn't just put up a shower with it.

I came home and looked the tub up on Kohler's website. it's their birthday bath. I'm still in shock over the price of this tub. I can't believe this tub.

I don't think I'll ever get a better "deal" on anything.

Even if I don't absolutely love it, it's certainly going to add some pizazz to my little cottage bathroom.

I knew you guys would appreciate this more than anyone else.

Check to see if you can find an architectural salvage place in your area. They usually have a lot of old-style claw foot tubs.

Wow. Steal is right! If you don't like the feet you could use a metallic paint and make them whatever color you want. I agree, they do pop out at you! Congrats on the new tub.

I found that concrete blocks (4x16x8) are very good for raised beds. These can be seconds (much cheaper and just as strong) from Dolese or any concrete company. There are many methods for placement and grass removal. I used steel, plastic and aluminum rods/pipes to hold them in place. They merely adjoin each other and eventually some bermuda will creep in, but it is easily removed, if caught early. I have had my blocks for the past 7 years and they replaced wood 2x8 that rotted.

Oaktown, no I have not been able to see the sink live. I would prefer the 4 ft one, but cannot spare the floor space. Luckily for my plans, no infants or toddlers are in our future. I was wondering about the faucets getting in the way. I was planning on buying the Chicago Faucets already because I never liked the looks of the rough body on the Kohler. Then I learned that the Kohler are now tagged as for non-potable water only due to higher lead content. Chicago Faucets pass the lead testing, plus have their patented ceramic Quaturn valves. Thanks for your info, though. The Brockway is going to be the only bathtub in the house! Have you seen the other faucet that Kohler makes (or made, I don't know if it is still available) for the Brockway? It is called the Calder. It is the same body as the Cannock, used upside down, with the rose spray connected right to the body, without a spout. So the spray is closer to the back of the sink, not projected out on the goose neck. The Calder also does not use a chrome wall flange to bring the faucet body further away from the back splash. So the whole faucet sits tighter to the body of the sink. I find myself wondering if I like this faucet almost more than the Cannock-style, which is going to force me to put the medicine cabinet extra high. What do you think of this Calder faucet? Thanks, everyone! I've contacted our friend from the neighborhood association who is a small job contractor to ask for a referral for an electrician. It is just better to be safe than sorry. And if I lose out on the deal, oh well, it wasn't meant to be right now. They actually had two ranges, and I doubt even at the reduced price they will be flying out the door since they are still expensive relative to an electric smoothtop, and most people beyond the TKO have no idea what is induction. However, it's a great deal for anyone who recognizes it. With the appliance rebates this upcoming weekend, there will certainly be more traffic in the stores. The Maytag coiltop range I have now is nowhere near on its last legs at this time. I ran the self clean after Christmas and it was perfectly fine. The burner elements are all good, too.

Love finding deals for my remodel! Use Ebay alot to buy lighting (Murray Feiss) and plumbing fixtures (Pegasus) and even bought my Jacuzzi Whirlpool bath via ebay $300!! A friend of mine picked it up for me in Richmond, Va because he traveled that way alot to visit family. Lowe's is my next favorite place for deals. When they have markdowns. I bought 2 French Doors for $150/ea. - 2 Pella storm doors (NIB) for $10/ea. and 3 polyvinyl designer screen doors for $5/ea.!! Bought all stainless steel appliances there as well on deep deep discount as well. My best adventure is buying all my kitchen, bath and laundryroom cabinetry from the Kraftmaid warehouse in Lordstown. Spending $60-$95 on most base, upper and vanities. My huge double door pantry with pullouts -$135!! ;^) . Cabinets are hickory and cherry. (you can find out more about Kraftmaid warehouse by searching these forums). The savings of these finds and doing the remodel ourselves makes it easier to justify some up the upgrades we have made like adding a wet/dry central vac system. Finding these bargains has been the fun part of a long remodeling project. Happy hunting fellow bargain hunters!

Nevermind. I was confused. I thought you were saying that you went to buy it, and it had already been sold/donated. I guess you're saying that you bought it at the church rummage sale. Good find.

Great, did you see that the feet are an extra charge. List for the feet was around $1,700. Of course I don't think anyone ever spends list price for fixtures, this is still a wonderful deal!

Great deal! Sell it to someone who wants a more modern tub and offer to take their old claw foot off their hands for free.

Yes, they included the plumbing fixtures as well. It's all set to be installed. I just need to get the pieces necesarry for adding a shower with it. This is my only bathroom at the cottage and while a tub is great, a shower is a necessity!

I did see that the feet were another $1700!! That's insane.

What I think happened is that the owners donated it to the church so they could take the tax donation then it was the church selling it either through their rummage sale or via craigslist. I happened to find it on craigs list and had no idea what I was really looking at.

I had no idea bathtubs could be so insanely expensive. I've never redecorated a house before so I was totally clueless.

working out of town when you have people working on your home is a hard way to learn patience!

Bummer, the tub is still sitting out in the yard. They didn't take it in for a dry fitting for the plumbing.
And one of the pipes to the pump is leaking so they need to get that fixed and I still need to find the right flooring.

On the good side, my neighbor saw the tub and was raving over it. She was really impressed. Considering she has to look at it covered with the ugly blue tarp over it, I'm glad she likes the tub!

Susan, do you have a picture of this tub as a shower? I bought a house that has this tub in it, and I'd like to use it in the guest bath, but need to turn it into a shower.
