My mom didn't want any service either, but we had one, we needed one. The wake is for you, not your loved one. If you feel the need, go ahead and have one. My Grandparents didn't want one, so, Mom said no! But we all felt strange. It was weird to not have that for us.

Even when life isn't that great for many nearing life's end, it is so deeply difficult for those of us left behind to see them go from this dimension of life ... out of our sight and earshot.

I hope that you and your family may find some comfort in the next few days as you talk of the things that were part of your life with her.

May you find peace in your hearts, as well ... knowing that her life on this earth has now been completed. And knowing that she would want you to remember the good things that were part of your lives together, emphasizing that rather than the sadness associated with the parting.

My condolences on your loss. It's not easy, I know. If there's any comfort in it, at least she was at home instead of hospital or hospice, in familiar surroundings when she passed. I'd think that was a comfort to her.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sounds very similar to what my mom did. Brought her home with hospice on the 28th of December by noon on the 29th, she was gone.

We grieve not for them, but for ourselves. I think, in some ways, I'm taking it worse now than I did two weeks ago. ((Jannie)) May your memories bring you comfort and make you smile.

Feeling a little better today, Monday. I've spoken with my siblings and they understand I can't come for a visit right now, my husband is in a Rehab Hospital himself due to an exacerbation of Mulktiple Sclerosis. My brother is the Executor of the Estate. My two sisters have volunteered to help with the sorting of her belongings. I wrote my brother Bill "Billy" a long letter, thanking him for taking care of Mom for the last years since Dad died , for visiting her every day when she was hospitalized, for getting her hospice at home, and told him I will not challenge the will. I trust him, we were best pals growing up, and I know he'll do right for all of us. Mom wanted no wake or funeral; we will spread her ashes when the summer comes. Thank you for all your responses. jannie maybe you can when you're able, to do what we did...my family went to dinner at olive garden to celebrate my mother's life in a place she dearly loved...

she too, requested no funeral and was cremated..in respect for my uncles and her family, we have a marker in their hometown, next to my gg/grandparents...
