Newbie to pickling. Did I do it right??

Alright please bare with me. I have read the directions and precautions over and over again. I want to know if I canned these cucumbers correctly. Anyone's advice will be greatly appreciated.

First off I used Ball's kosher dill pickle spice mix and the pickle crisp stuff.

I boiled the spice mix with vinegar, water and pickle crisp per directions on pickle crisp package. I made sure the lids were in hot water (180 F) then I placed the quart size jars in the pot rack to be sterilized also. (1st question. I sterilized the jars in the same canning water bath that you later on process the jars in) Was this alright or did I misunderstand? Then after everything was to the right temperature I raised the pot rack the jars were in and one at a time placed the cucumbers and spice mix/vingear/etc... in the jars. Placed the hot lids and screwed the tops on. Then as each one was finished I placed it back in the rack. After they were all done I lowered the rack into the pot and brought it up to boiling and boiled for 15 minutes and then let it cool for 5 minutes then removed the jars onto a towel. One jar popped immediately and sealed. Two others did the same thing a bit later. I only canned 4 jars altogether for my first time. Plus the package only said it was enough for 4 quart jars.

Side note - There was a little bit of juice left over so I cut up so more cucumbers and put them in a small jar and covered them in the leftover juice. Now that one is in the fridge. In a week or so it should be ready to eat but it is only good for a month of so right????

Also on the packaging of pickle crisp and the kosher dill spice mix.where I got the recipe it said to let the pickles soak in the brine over night then refrigerate and later if needed you can cann them. I did not do this. I looked at over recipes on how to can cucumbers and it just said to pour your vinegar, spice, water, etc... over the cucumbers.

My future husband came in the kitchen at the end of my canning experience and said aren't they supposed to be upside down. (Panic) I didn't read that anywhere but apparently his grandmother does it that way. ?????\

I am sorry this is so long but I need an experts advice. I want to make sure these will be safe to eat. I really appreciate your input. Thanks. Christina
