Yes, that was interesting but..... Now it is 3 hours later and I went from Julian calendar back to old Nordic and old English month names and from there to Irish history, the Nordic gods, the Niebelungen Saga, Irish and via Richard Wagners operas back to more recent times. The laundry still sits where I left it before I read your post. Instead of housecleaning I ended up with more stuff in a drawer in my brain.

The number form is pugga and sable. Lynxe, I also have some weak taste/smell associations, and one of them is cooked sliced carrots but I can't remember the full association. It is specifically carrots sliced coin style, because they taste slightly different than cooked carrots cut into sticks. Of the people who have the person-color-smell associations, do you have trouble sometimes remembering their face or recalling their name (at the wrong moment)? Apparently, synesthetics will imprint (My term for lack of a technical one) Other information rather than the obvious face or name information. So you may associate the person with a certain smell, color or characteristic that supersedes remembering their name. I REALLY have trouble with some people's faces or names and part of it is the synesthesia, but part of it is also that I remember a lot of faces in general, the problem is remembering whether I Actually Know them or not. My significant other, on the other hand, who does not seem to be synesthetic in the least has a photographic memory for people's faces, names and a short biography. Someone who is an actual stranger but lives in our city may be recognized walking down the other side of the street or going by in a cab in New York--conversely has a terrible time with math, remembering numbers, and has gone to the completely wrong address for places we have been or even stayed over and over.

I have a 5/8" bevel edge on my kitchen counters and LOVE it. I also have the same edge in the laundry room and crescent edge in the bathrooms. I also like the crescent a lot - but of the two, I'd do the bevel again if I could only do one. From our fabricator, up to 5/8" bevel was free (that's a little over half an inch, I think many are free up to 1/4" or 1/2"). It is simple lines and cleans up like a breeze. Like others, I strongly encourage you to go look at the slabs and, if possible, go to more than one yard. Ask the Sales Manager if they have any "clearance" granite or "single slabs" as those often can save you hundreds (or, on pricer granites, thousands). I seriously can't recall how many sq. ft. we had in our kitchen so I don't know if 37 s/f could be handled with one slab or if you must get two. If just one (even if a larger slab), you would be wise to ask about "single slabs". My cousin works for a granite supplier and the first time I bought granite 17 years ago, she's the one that told me about "single slabs". Slabs are numbered consecutively down the side when they're cut. So, if you have 10 slabs that come from one big chunk, hypothetically you would have a slab that ended with 01, 02, 03, etc. to 10. Slab 02 would better "match" or "mirror" slabs 01 and 03 than it would 08 or 10. If Customer A buys slabs 01, 02 and 03 and Customer B buys slabs 05 and 06, then 04 becomes a "single slab". It doesn't have another sister slab that was cut from either side of it. Those slabs are often a lot cheaper and just as terrific. Also, they could have a big slab with one ugly blotch in the middle or something that causes people not to buy it. My folks got a full slab of Baltic Brown granite for $255 (you read that right) because it was a "single slab" with one dark black blotch about the size of a 50 cent piece. My mom loves that blotch - says it has "character". She could very easily have had them fabricate around it. That slab was enough to do her kitchen and a bathroom vanity. A lot of people don't know to ask for clearance or single slabs, but it can save you a ton. I remember seeing 8 slabs of some kind of "thunder" something or other granite that was a beautiful dark gray with black and white waves that was originally over $33 a sq ft marked down to $6 a sq ft. They weren't going to carry that one any more, so they wanted to unload it. It didn't go with my granite plans, but if I had owned a rental property it would have been installed there! Your kitchen is going to be awesome - have fun picking "the one" piece of granite. Make it a fun trip - drive two hours, look at slabs, ask for a deal, then go have lunch before heading home.

First, you must find a way to keep the squirrels off the house. You will continue to have the problem until the squirrels are denied access. Common Access Points: 1. A tree limb that is overhanging the roof or within a few feet of the roof. 2. Ivy or other vines climbing the exterior walls. 3. A trellis to close to the house is a squirrel ladder. 4. Electric power wires. The critter climbs the utility pole and gets onto the wires and then may have access to your roof depending on the details of your installation. In our town, the power company lays out the distrubition transformer and wires (on the pole) in a way that discourages squirrels. However, in some installations, the squirrels do manage to get on the insulated service entrance wires without electrocuting themselves. 5. Wood siding or wood downspouts are climable. 6. Ancillary buildings nearby. Most building codes call for a minimum separation between unattached building such as sheds for fire protection purposes, but if you are ina rural area, you building may have been constructed differently. I've seen many old farm houses with a smoke house or utility shed located a few feet from the back door. If the shed is climable, it is a stepping stone for the squirrels. In our neighborhood, we have red (fox) and gray squirrels. Our experience has been that it is the little fiesty red squirrels who are the most persistent, do the most damage, and the most difficult to evict. My next door neighbor was invaded by red squirrels. They entered his house by chewing a hole through the roof next to the chimney. He made repairs and removed two trees that were too close to the house. The problem was solved once the squirrels were denied access to the roof.
