Getting clothes as dry as possible before the dryer

I have a kenmore he2t front loader and it gets some of the loads pretty dry.

But when I do loads of underwear and socks and t-shirts they come out dripping wet.

One of the reasons I bought a front loader is to get the clothes as dry as possible so it would cut down on drying time since a dryer is so expensive to run.

I put the load on an extra spin cycle and it helped but I wish it would just spin the water out of them itself.

I just wanted to see if anyone else with a front loader has clothes come out wet, and if anyone has found ways of getting clothes as dry as possible before tossing them in the dryer?

I have a Bosch Next 500 washer. Occasionally I will get a load that doesn't spin very well, but only when I have something really heavy in the load. Heavy items can unbalance a load to the point where it won't spin at the usual speed, thereby leaving clothes wetter than usual. When this happens to me (and it isn't very often) I simply rearrange the clothes and run the washer through the spin cycle again.

Perhaps you are overloading your machine? I do think that sometimes people expect a FL to handle too much in the way of weight.

Your machine isn't spinning up to speed at all, in that case. Should be infrequent situation. May require manual re-distribution of load and re-attempt when it does happen. Suspect overload condition. Underwear, socks, T-shirts should distribute and balance very easily unless something else at work.

You're making a great effort, and don't let anything I say discourage you because I'm a firm believer in using the line when possible. That said, I love my dryer too. For casual, professional wear, I'm way too lazy to iron (and with 3 little ones, you're most likely way too busy to iron unless it's the way you get your relaxation or something), so those clothes go in the dryer. For clothes where wrinkles matter a bit less (like your kids' everyday clothes), there are a few tricks to hanging clothes to decrease or avoid the issues you mention. Someone above mentioned shaking the clothes before hanging them. I would agree but not describe it that way. It's more of a shake-snap. (Sorta like the thing a big brother does with a dish towel to hit someone with it.) Use two hands and lift it up and whip it down so that it makes a snap sorta sound. (Maybe you can find a video on You Tube??) As for marks, I usually put things on the line (rather than hangers). Where you put the clothespins should be chosen rather strategically. I tend to hang shirts upside-down and pinch them at the side seams. My husband learned (yes! and yes!) to hang them right-side-up and pinch them on the armhole seams. Some things I do use hangers and I often use two hangers and pull them about an inch apart to distribute the weight better. Anything that has a "poor stretchy to heavy" ratio should be laid out flat. Most of the drying racks mentioned above probably have an area where multiple "spindles" are close enough together to use for this. (Sweaters fall into this category and usually tell you to dry flat; jeans are heavy but not stretchy so they do great on the line.) Oh, and socks and underwear (and other little stuff)...I usually use what I call "pinch racks." They have a hook at the top like a coathanger and multiple "arms" (that usually fold up for storage) with permanently attached clothespins. It's much easier to me to hang it near the washer and load it there even if I plan to take it out to the line (which I may or may not do depending on weather, my energy, the phase of the moon;-) etc). Wrinkles from high-speed spin aren't inevitable -- Clothes spun at 1400 RPM in our Miele don't come out any more wrinkled than from our old TL. That's true even for my wife's and daughter's clothes. Someone in some forum, I think it was on automaticwasher.org, had a theory about this. Based on his observations of two different FL washers, he said that wrinkles are reduced if the machine distributes the load between stepped spins (spins at progressively higher speeds). My Miele doesn't do exactly that. On the cycles I use most often, it does a pulse spin, distribute, pulse spin, distribute, and then a stepped, continuous final spin. So maybe that theory has to be refined, but whatever, we don't have wrinkling problems. And I computed a G-force of over 600 G's, with a 1400 RPM spin and this machine's drum diameter.

I'm not over stressing fabrics since I'm using timed dry and when the timed dry cycle ends, they are always damp cupboard dry. I guess I never called for service since the dryer itself was working great and drying clothes fast.... Even though my Dryer has an auto dry feature, I didn't use it much because I had been so used to using timed dry my entire life and pretty much know how long it takes and what temp to set it on so that the clothes are just barely damp at the end. I don't like drying to bone dry and realize this is not good for fabrics. Here's what happens when I use auto dry: For example. I have a medium load and set the dial to normal (which defaults to 40 min's with med heat setting. Turn dryer on, sensor says "wet" the the dryer runs and the countdown starts. So perhaps 30 minutes later you do look at the dryer as it's still running and you see 10 min's left (but the sensor still says wet) even though the dryer is counting down. I let it do it's thing just to see what happens and the timer increased itself another 15 minutes (because sensor still says wet). At this point it's been drying for about 35 min's without me interrupting it. I open the dryer, and the clothes are obvious NOT wet, but merely damp (so the sensor should say damp) not wet. The auto dry (if I had left in running) WILL ultimately go to damp, then automatically cut off when it feels the clothes are dry (so it is somewhat working) but it runs LONGER than it would if I used timed dry. So it DOES work, but not like it "should" work. Again I should have called to have it fixed but for some strange reason I guess in my mind since the dryer was drying clothes fast everything was fine. I just cleaned those strips AGAIN with vinegar. I also took the front panel off the dryer and cleaned under there really well. I will give auto dry another go and see what happens

Like I've posted a few times before, clothes washers are saving far more energy and water than necessary to earn the Energy Star rating. They're doing it to earn a $250/unit tax credit, paid directly to the manufacturer. In theory, this gives the industry an incentive to build efficient washers that consumers are willing to buy. But just about everyone thinks that today's overly-efficient washers are required by law, so they think they're powerless to reject them. Therefore, the industry gets their tax credit ($250/unit is a lot of money) while letting us think we have no choice. Even the Home Editor of Consumer Reports didn't believe it at first, when I told him how the system works. Now CR knows about it, but won't educate the public by including the facts in their reports.

Hi summertime. This is late but hope you may read this. I had the same trouble with my clothes: underwear, delicate etc. I have a Whirpool frontloader, but they are same as kenmore. I called the hotline several times and talked with service reps to no avail. Finally, I had had enough of the "go around" from them and called the pres. of Whirp.' office. I talked with his personal secretary. He sent out a repair man and he explained that when you wash items on lower cycles; they do not ring out dry. So, I dry everything on the regular cycle and have no problems. I use the "whitest whites" or the "normal cycle" and have not had this problem since.

Good for you eden for calling up the pres. I called the pres of HP once and got immediate results.

I have an LG and on any cycle I can override the default spin speed. Do you have that with Whirlpool/Kenmore? It doesn't make sense to me that clothes would come out wet.

:O Can you give me his number? Seriously? No, SERIOUSLY. You would not BELIEVE the headaches I am going through right now with a BRAND NEW delivered and installed Whirlpool Oven/Micro combo. AND THIS IS THE *SECOND* ONE THEY HAVE DELIVERED! :banghead:
