I've been seeing some things, and I was so happy to see them too. I'd probably buy something even if I didn't really like it, to keep them in business.

good for you! i actually got a pair of high end jeans recently, on clearance no less LOL, and when i was hemming them i found they were 'made in the u.s.a'. i often look when shopping but this was such an incredible deal i didn't look and could not pass up such a deal lol. i use Bare Escentuals make-up and almost all of their products are made in the US, mostly the brushes are not. Philosophy is another brand i use almost exclusively and they are made in the us too. i do look for it ~ liz

I hope it's a trend. The Chinese have a warped idea of what Medium, Large and Extra Large is. I'd rather pay more money.

I have recently found throw rugs (that I liked quite well) and quality paint rollers at WM that were made in the USA. I wish stores would boldly mark or display the USA made items.

Even though I am Canadian - I'd welcome articles made in North America period. We used to buy DH's pants at Marks Work Wearhouse because they carried a lot of Made in Canada. Last time we went it that was impossible. We even asked staff re-stocking. Most of their stuff now is off continent. Target/Zellers (same ownership) have a lot of Made in China. Because of economics, improper clothing sizing we make it a point to look for North American. I miss the US commercials for clothing with the Union Label. Those were proud days. It used to be excellent cotton goods made a holiday in the US extremely worthwhile with the cotton industry. We need to bring industry home. I don't want cheap. I want quality. I want North American. We are in this together.

And don't get me started on PM Harper selling out Canada...grrrrrrrr.

Digging in the chest of drawers the other evening ...

... I found a couple of underwear tops, in a package that looked, shall we say, somewhat dated ...

... and I opened it, to find some new ones to go with my Christmas-present briefs ...

... to find that they'd been "Made in Canada"!

When a discussion went on here a while ago about using locally produced stuff, I suggested that if all of the non-locally produced goods were to disappear on Monday at noon ...

... quite a few of us would be walking around nearly naked!

The item in question was at Christopher & Banks - and it was only one item. Everything else was made in China. I wouldn't jump to any conclusion that it was better quality though. I actually thought it was kind of flimsy which is why I looked at where it was made. I think quality is probably determined by the company that contracts with the supplier - they provide the specfications and determine what cost they're willing to pay for production. I bought another sweater yesterday that was made in China and the quality was much better in my opinion. It was a higher end brand though.

I think we get cheap quality because consumers want cheap prices. I'd been looking for a very high quality winter coat for years - wanted quality similar to a coat I bought about 30 years ago. I looked and looked and thought I'd never find one. Finally I looked in a kind of expensive store that was having an end of season sale and found exactly what I was looking for. Normal list price was far more than I could ever bring myself to pay for a coat. At end of season closeout I still paid about twice as much as the last crummy coat I bought but a great value for the luxurious fabric and high quality construction.
