I'd be interested to hear any replies to this thread, i am also thinking about using Calacatta Gold subway tiles as my backsplash in a kitchen with creamy white cabinets and dark countertop.

She said she used Carrera Random. Is that pretty much the same as Calacatta Gold? I guess most marbles (except the darker ones) have that very white base to them?

That will be my problem. I wanted a Carrera marble island countertop and was not able to find a small slab (which is all I need) so I went with another white 2" inch marble but would love to do a Calacatta Gold backsplash. I am thinking that the two will not conflict since they are not right up against each other. It will all be done within the next 2 weeks, and I will post pictures then.

I do :) from Ann Sacks. I, too, was concerned with the amount of WHITE, so I ordered an extra 30% and pulled all of the plain white tiles out. For some reason the first picture shows a hint of blue, but that isn't accurate in real life. HTH!!

And lagrant, your marble is absolutely beautiful! Actually, I think it helps me make up my mind. I think for my granite (Bianco Romano) a marble backsplash (no matter the color) will compete too much with the granite. There is a lot more pattern to the marble backsplash than I realized.

Still haven't ruled it out, however. It is just sooooo pretty.

My sister has Bianco Romano granite and I have to say that I think the two would fight with each other. Have you considered thassos marble - same background color but without any veining...

No I haven't even heard of thassos marble. I'll look into that as well.

I am using seafoam green granite with white cabinets and I want to use calcutta gold backsplash with a calcutta gold island. I will use a picture frame of moasic basket weave with some green dots over cooktop. The field is honed calcutta gold brick and the picture frame is shiny. Do you think that works and should the Island be honed or shiny?
