banana bread question

When baking a banana bread, I like to add choc chips to the mix (I used the prepackaged mix). I have done this a few times in the past and noticed that each time I did it, it always took longer to thoroughly bake the bread than what the recipe said it would. The middle part of the bread was still gooey at the end of the *supposedly* baking period. Following the temperature instruction would give me burned bread because I had to leave it in the oven longer than the instructions said. Lowering the temp seemed to help a little bit but the bread came out dry.

What am I doing wrong here? Help is appreciated.
