In all honesty, you have created so many limits in your post that I don't think there is much that can be done. The furniture all has to stay, the tv can't be moved, the table is where you eat most of your meals and is already conveniently located right outside the kitchen.

We cannot see what is at the end of the room to the left of the window, perhaps some kind of cabinet? Are you sure the tv can't be moved - it is generally not a big deal to move the cable connection, if that is what concerns you.

One thing that seems to be missing, but perhaps is because you haven't put things back into place, is much pattern or color. Everything is solid, there is little art or patterned fabric in the room. That all by itself might liven things up and make the room more pleasing.

At the very least I would try turning the kitchen table the other way and try putting the sofa and chair in an L configuration. I would take the ottoman or the coffee table out of the room. There is not enough room for both. In fact, take out any extra furniture that is making it feel cluttered. It can be a very nice room, it just has too much stuff. Edit, edit, edit.

It is a very pretty room. Could you remove the oversized chair (since you will eventually replace it) and make do with the rocker and sofa?

I also think editing is your friend in this room. I would also remove the coffee table. A great patterned rug or drapes would add some color and pattern.

Is the ceiling shiny? Can you change the ceiling fixture?

I'd remove the glider, remove the plant stands, remove that cart/console thing to the left of the tv, remove the ikea cd/dvd tall skinny thing, and find a longer lower tv stand (in this small room I think the tv would look better lower).

Hi! The kitchen table needs to be turned and the end as close to wall. Need some color, maybe chair pads. Move the sofa under the window, move the chair and half on a angle to the right of couch. Eliminate the coffee table, use the ottoman as a foot rest and place a tray on it when you need a solid surface. You can still use it with a tray on one end. You may have to remove the rocker as well.When ou need additional seating place it facing the room from the end of the dining room. The room is pretty, just needs a little more color on the dining room side. Good Luck! Sandra

Thanks, caminnc, that gives me the view that was missing. I would think about moving the TV to that corner where the plant stand and table are in the last pix posted. Then put the couch on the wall where the tv is now, the oversized chair and ottoman facing the tv with the back to the table and chairs. The small rocker could stay in the corner where it is in your first pix posted.

Others have mentioned turning the dining table, but I am wondering if you have room to do that comfortably and still use both sides of the table. What you could do is turn the table and put one side agains the end wall, then seat people on each end and the open side.

Everything is shoved around and squeezed together because my son wanted the Christmas tree in this room. Yes, the TV has to stay there because we have Dish, not cable, and the wiring runs down inside of that wall. No, the ceilings are not shiny, and I will change the fixtures as soon as I can.

I am totally open to taking things out and shopping my house for something better. I have a small house and I'm running out of room, and I do need to edit.

Hopefully, I will be able to replace some furniture down the road. I have been looking for a round pedestal dining table, which would probably be a better fit.

I have been working on making some new pillows to add some color/pattern. I considered doing some my3dogs valances, but I think the long window is just too long.

I sure like the arrangement that Caminnc posted for you. It looked more open & uncluttered, as well as useful.

I'm terrible with furniture arrangment but I really like your couch and chair - they look comfortable. The turned legs on your table and the black/pine mix are my favorite (I have the same in my kitchen). If it were my table, I'd consider staining it a bit darker - maybe antique pine - to complement the darker woods in your spaces.
