Yes, as far as I know, a sewing machine that could embroider a monogram of that size would cost a couple thousand dollars.

An iron-on applique would be simple, or you could make your own stencil and paint it on.

It looks like an applique to me. I love that fancy embroder work too. I would love to have two pillows for my bed, one that say's beauty and the other that says sleep.

I was just thinking last night that I wish I knew how to emborder. How hard can it be?

Oh, I saw a couple of decorators do that with silk screening, but it was a while ago and I can't remember the details. They were touting it as a diy, but they did you use screening attached to wood frame. sorry I don't have more info.

I have a coverlet for my bed with my monogram appliqued on it. It was a housewarming gift from my in-laws. My mother-in-law ordered it from schweitzer linens. (They have sales sometimes!) Mine is white with tan piping and appliqued momogram...I use it in the spring/summer.

Graywings.....stencil.....thanks for the idea!! I think I will try that for my lampshades. I was wondering how in the world you would get a lampshade under the machine to embroider?! But, I could use paint & stencil it myself. I'll have to buy some new lampshades since the lamps are my sisters....don't think she'd want my last initial on her shades:)

Those beautiful pillows look much like the applique on a Hawaiian Quilt block, without the quilting.

You might be able to find an applique pattern online if you search Hawaiian Quilts.

From the details on her website I'd say they're embrodery. I have a "Fancy" machine that can do that and absolutely love it :) But my guess is she's not using a five thousand dollar sewing/embroidery machine. She's using an embroidery only professional machine. They start at seven thousand (If I had room I'd figure out a reason why I need that one LOL) and go up to fifty thousand and more (she's probably using a combo, but much of the scalloping has to be done on the highest professional end).

You could do a lamp shade on the seven grand machines, but not on a normal sewing machine....you have to be able to "hoop" it up somehow. Most likely they would do a lamp shade off of the frame and then strech it (you can buy kits for this at joannes...not as nice but same idea).

I'd say embroidery machine also and ditto what Igloochic said. We have a few new businesses in cities around here that do this type monogramming. Mongramming is the hot item right now I guess. I got a few monogrammed items from a friend for Christmas, black and white with a hot pink monogram.

As for the lampshades, do a shout-out for Georgiagal if you are interested in those. I believe she has a friend who does the embroidery and she did two for her dining room. Georgiagal is an expert at covering lampshades. She had the fabric monogrammed first and then covered her lampshades. She has a blog - Southern Hospitality.

Also Igloo - those machines are SOOOO expensive. My husband often goes to machinary auctions (he's a machinist/fabricator), and was telling me just the other day about some of the sewing machines he's seen for sale at the auctions for upholestery and also the ones for embroidery. He's actually interested in one of the upholstery sewing machines. I may have to start going to these auctions with him to check out the sewing machines! LOL

The thing that I love about the commercial machine, more so even than their speed (which is amazing) is their ability to load up multiple threads at once. With my sewing/embroidery machine, something like the above is easy sleezy, just one color and hoop just once, but with a more detailed pictures, say a bird, with multiple colors, I have to change thread with each new color. It's not the end of the world, but I'd frankly kill to have the ability to load up 10 colors all at once and then just walk away :)

I keep telling DH that I could do all of his work shirts if we got one....mind you we need a place to store it LOL cuz it won't fit in my sewing closet...but a girl can dream. If we get the big house...one of these will find it's way to my home soon :)
