I'm new here but just wanted to give my input. I know you are probably not wanting to spend a lot of money to totally "fumigate" the room by painting, stripping this and that, etc. So here is another easy alternative. It's not 100% fool proof by any means, but at least it is realistic. As long as you keep the room smoke free, plus keep the items you're selling/craft supplies, packing supplies, etc. in a confined area in the room (such as an armoir, cabinet, drawer, etc.), AND as long as the items you are selling aren't cloth, mesh, or other materials that smoke smells cling to the worst, you should do fine. You can get an ionizer, as suggested. Keep the room totally smoke free and clean furniture, etc. often, and also, for good measure, get a can of air freshener designed to eliminate odors to spray a few times a day. Keep the room closed off away from where your spouse smokes. When it cools off, keep windows open when possible during the day. As long as you keep your items and packing materials in this room in a closed space or cabinet in the room, clean and deodorize room often, get an ionizer and, again, as long as they are not cloth items, you should do just fine. Yes, there are some people who are extremely sensitive to smoke but it's a small risk if you take the easy-to-do measures listed. Now, if you were selling clothes or purses/bags, it'd be a totally different story and I wouldn't do that. But for crafts or other non-cloth items, I say go for it. I'm sure you would do well selling your crafts on Ebay. Good luck!

I am a smoker & I smoke in my car but I don't like to smell it when I get in. (I also live alone.) I shampoo my car mats & upholstery every month & keep the ashtray clean & filled w/baking soda at all times. I have tried the vinegar method which worked. Also, you should treat the vents since when you turn them on, the smell of smoke will be right back. I bought a small bottle of New Car Smell at my local Stop & Shop & that works great! I use it everyday when I leave my car for the night. I spray it on the seats, interior roof, etc. I have also used the Gain fabric softener sheets to minimal success. Basically, aside from smoking, my car is always very clean. I understand that's a big "aside," & I know it would be much easier to quit smoking but that ain't happening soon! However, when people get in my car, they are surprised that I smoke in it since they tell me it doesn't smell like smoke.

Do you have any charcoal? Not the kind that lights instantly. Regular charcoal or the kind used in aquarium filters. Put some in a butter dish with holes in the lid. Place the dish and the yarn in a garbage bag for a few days with the top closed really tight. Also wash the items after you knit or crochet them. Just incase some of the charcoal might dust off. The charcoal will absorb the odor. I had a gallon of milk leak in the back of my Expedition on the way home from the grocery store. The back is carpeted like the rest of the vehicle. What a stink! Even tho I had cleaned it up and used a cleaner on it. And that was in Feb! I bought some filter charcoal, cause in the winter I didn't have any use for, or place to keep that much for the grill. Then I made a fabric pillow filled with the charcoal granules and put that in the car. After a few days the smell was gone. I did leave the charcoal in all summer. That was 2 years ago. Usually, the car is in the garage, but that summer I spent a month with my daughter and had to park outside in the sun the whole time. Even then, it didn't smell like sour milk. If it gets rid of sour milk smell, it'll take out cigarette smoke! Tami

The smell is coming from some type of mold or fungus growing in your PVC pipes. I have this problem in the kitchen of one of my beach condos. Every couple of years I have to replace the disposal, and the pipes under the sink. The smell is SOOOO strong, and nothing will get rid of it. It took years to figure out the cause. I have soaked the PVC pipes in about everything, and it will not go away. But it is seasonal, flares up worst in the fall. Smells exactly like stale cigarettes. Will permeate everything, blankets, soft surfaces, everything stinks. The smell will penetrate black garb bags, thick ones, even 2 or 3 over each other (I wrapped the pipes to buy the same ones and it stunk up my car, even triple wrapped). I have no idea what type of mold this is, or fungus, but it's bad, and it's like the fungus smell is actively spewing from the sink. It will stink up the entire place. I'm not sure how to really solve the problem for good. So I solve it periodically by replacing the PVC pipes under the sink and the disposal. Then gone. When it comes back, initially it smells vaguely organic like rotting cucumbers for a day or so, then like cigarettes, stale cigarettes. I hope that helps. I wish a biologist would find this blog and ask for a sample. I'd love to know what I'm dealing with. I'm happy to donate an old disposal for testing when it happens again. I've smelled this smell in nature too in swampy areas, but it's MUCH stronger when contained inside.
