Easy solutions for smoke smell
Comments (5)Smoke allergies can be very serious - as someone with smoke-allergy-triggered asthma myself, I have to say that you need to put your sister's health at a higher priority, if not your own. 1. Quit smoking, it causes cancer and ages you faster 2. If you can't quit, smoke outside. It is a fire hazard to smoke in bed please do not do it! You can't "remove" smoke indoors, even the best HEPA filter can't remove all the particles and those nasty pollutants will permeate your neighbor's apartments as well as your own....See MoreNeighbors cigarette smoke entering through Baseboard pipes...
Comments (21)I am a smoker and have always, although sheepishly, claimed it as a personal liberty. And it is absolutely grand to see that someone would tolerate another's personal liberties to this extent. From experience I know that cigarrette smoke permeates everything. And as some of the responders here have mentioned, ifiltration from below at evey crack and opening would be near impossible to cancel. You are smelling it at the fin tube probably because all room air will move toward them. That's how they work. Taking cooler floor air, heating it to a rise temperature and dispersing it. So naturally anything in the air is going to be or seem concentrated there. Here is a time that I'll have to concede, you may have to stand up for YOUR personal liberties as well. Best of luck in this "neighborly" and difficult situation! One man's ceiling IS another man's floor!...See MoreCigarette smoke from neighbors permeating through brick walls
Comments (12)My DD was having the worst time with cig smoke coming from an adjacent apartment (in what was supposed to be a non-smoking building!) There were multiple factors -- shared ductwork (fans), penetration through electrical outlets, a common attic that allowed air to travel from one unit to another. She also found the wall in her closet didn't actually go to the ceiling, and the substantial gap there allowed a direct communication to the neighbor's. Even a narrow crack can allow a fair amount of smoke to come through....See MoreSewer gas smell in bathroom
Comments (33)The house was built in 1967 and hasn’t seen any major plumbing changes while I’ve lived here. So the house is mostly copper and cast iron. We had a similar situation in our previous house which was built in the 1950s and had copper pipes. I'd been telling my husband for years that I could smell something like sewer in the house and he thought I was crazy. Then a few years ago we had a plumbing problem with the kitchen sink (which shares a wall with the bathroom) which meant opening the wall and found that the copper pipes had corroded quite badly. I suspect you may have the same situation, and the new septic system installation may just be coincidental....See MoreVal Warren
