Now a Pickle Question (Sharon's Dills)

Last summer I made 24 quarts of Sharon's Dills. We are down to the last 4 jars and when I went to open one for Burger night on Friday, I noticed the bottom is covered with a 1/4" layer of fine white silt. The jar was sealed, but we didn't eat them. Anyone know what this could be? I've been making this recipe for about 5 years now and this is the first time I have seen this.
