I still miss my grandson

If y'all remember, his mom made a spur of the moment decision right before Christmas to come take him back to live with her. So far, in order to not have to fight him, she has not let him come to spend the night yet, afraid that he'll give her a hard time when it's time to leave.

We have only seen him once since she took him but we talk on the phone once or twice a week. He seems to be doing better, not complaining and crying. I do believe that he belongs with his mother if she will care for him, but we miss him tremendously.

It's so boring around here lately.

I just went back and read your original post about him moving back with his mother. Of course, you would still miss him and he would miss you and your place as it was his home for that long a time. It's left a big hole in your life. I hope that she will allow more visits in the nearby future. Is he doing okay in his new school?

It was a little frustrating not being able to fully enjoy the daylilies, but I did get to fully enjoy my grandsons and that's even better--and they are even more gorgeous too! I was up in the morning before they were so I got to get out for a little while every day. Thanks for all the comments. I sometimes think I've gone overboard on the watermarks, but I love them and just can't resist. Many of these are quite new so I don't know yet about performance. Isle of Patmos does have amazing branching though. I've had Love on a Wire a little longer and it has great branching and budcount and increases very well. Val

My Mom was the greatest person, mother, wife in earth. She was the most spiritual, humble, compassionate, beautiful person I¡¦ve ever known. She was my rock, my faith, my comfort and my guidance, I feel as if I am lost in limbo without her. She had such a story, she was the oldest girl of 13 Children, and she raised her brothers and sisters while her parents ran the bar they owned across from Leavenworth Prison. When she wasn¡¦t doing that she was working in the bar. It made her who she was; she never drank, smoked or swore. She gave my Dad 40 years of her life. She lost her first born child when she was only 23. My brother Todd died of cancer when he was only 2, but yet she had the strength and courage to have 2 more children. I had told her so many times that I did not know how she could overcome that. With him being my only child at the time, I think I would have had to lie down and die beside him. She went head to head with a few Demons¡Kreal ones¡Kand a couple of my boyfriends, and let me tell you she was not afraid to tell them where to go. º My heart has been broken ever since January 5, 2005 when she was diagnosed she was given 6 months to 1 year, but she fought like hell for 1 year AND 6 six months. I am so grateful for all of the extra time that we were given. When she was told of this horrible news, she refused it, would not accept it. As did my Dad, my Sister and I. How could someone so full of life, someone whose eyes sparkled so bright be given this terrible burden? It wasn¡¦t fair, but even then she was teaching us something. She was so brave and never once did she let her faith fall. I spent every moment I could with her, every lunch hour, anytime Dad needed a break, to cook, didn¡¦t matter what I was there! I just wanted to soak her all in, time was running out. Mom grew weaker, the pain intensified, and she had so much confusion from all the meds and so came the need for her to have someone by her side 24/7. I basically moved back ¡§home¡¨ for the last month to help Dad. My sister was called and was also told to come ¡§home¡¨, time was running short. It was not until this time that she actually gave up, ¡§I want you to know that I can¡¦t fight this anymore, I am tired and I have decided to give up. I want you to know that you girls are the light of my life and I love you¡¨. And I told her that we understood, we would be ok and there was a little boy waiting for her and now it is his turn, we had kept her long enough. I thanked her for showing me the kind of person I wanted to grow to be and let her know how much I loved her And a few days later she was gone, I was there with her and holding her hand at that very moment. She was only 59¡Kand I am 29¡KI still need my mom. She once was the greatest person, Wife and Mother on earth and now she is the most beautiful of all the Angels in heaven. My Sister will be here for the Thanksgiving holiday and we have decided that it is time to start going through her things. Deciding how we are going to divide her art, and all her possessions that meant so much to her. What to do with her clothes, her shoes, her books. Call me crazy but I always hope that something from her will show up somewhere, she was the type to tuck little notes away that you would end up finding. I look for her all the time in my dreams; I could sit in pure silence for hours waiting to her voice. I miss her so much; I thought this was to get easier as time passes? Just when I feel that I am up on my feet, they get knocked out from underneath me. How do I deal? What about this hole I feel in my chest? I too hate the cemetery, to see her and my brothers granite stones laying side by side just rips me apart, I never go and I do feel guilty about that, but I don¡¦t feel that is where is ¡§she¡¨ is. Over 10 years and I still miss my dad

I have loved reading all the posts and gives me comfort that there are a lot of people who are experiencing the same thing as me. I too miss both my parents, still. My mom died 9 years ago from ovarian cancer and my Dad died 6 years ago after a long battle with renal failure and being on dialysis as a result. I cared for both my parents for years while they were ill. We had always been close and saw each other almost every day of my life. The last few years we all lived together while I was working full time, married and raising two boys. I was so busy with everything that I did not have time to stop and think about what was going to happen when they were gone. I miss them terribly every day and wish I would have just stopped and talked for hours on end to them while they were ill instead of doing the laundry, cleaning the house or grocery shopping or cooking. I am thankful I was able to provide them a safe home to live in and never had to place either one in a nursing home. Both boys are now grown and away from home, my husband works out of town a lot and recently my Uncle (my Mom's brother) has moved in with us after having several mini strokes and can no longer live alone. This has brought back the memories of caring for my Mom and Dad and makes me miss them more and more. I still work full time and this was a huge adjustment as my husband & I were just getting used to being empty nesters and had begun taking trips. We have adjusted accordingly and I am thankful once again that I am able to give my Uncle the care he needs without going to a nursing home. Grief can only be dealt on a day to day basis. Sometimes I can handle it and sometimes I just need a good cry. I think about all the great times we had and that makes me happy, but then the grief creeps back in because I can no longer talk to, smile at, laugh with, cry with or hug my parents ever again. My only comfort is knowing I will see them again one day in Heaven and that is what keeps me going day to day.

It's knitting Alisande. I have ADHD when it comes to knitting, so making something this big drove me NUTS (and it's baby size, so it's not THAT big even). Jason is 8 weeks old...and I started this about 6 months ago. Kept putting it down because I'd get bored! Vickey

I can understand giving your grandson needed time to make adjustments - and it must hurt at times. At least you can talk to him on the phone, love him with all your heart and know he loves you back.

I had a foster brother when I was very, very young. He was my best friend. Dad was in the military and got posted half way across Canada to a base that had no specialist nearby for Brian. And because it was out of province we could not keep him with our family. He was ill. My Mom worked very hard to get his health stable. We all loved him but had to let him go to a care home. It broke our hearts but it was the best for Brian.

I can only pray things will turn out well for all concerned so you can again see your lovely grandson.

gadgets - I think he is doing ok in the new school. At first he was very upset, not by just changing school systems, but then about which school he would have to attend. But, he is making new friends. I'm not sure how he is doing about homework and such. He should be getting a report card soon and I'm assuming it will be an average of his grades from both schools. I haven't called him this week as I feel his mom thinks I'm being pushy, so I'll call over the weekend.

peg - That must have been very hard to leave your foster brother behind even if it was the best thing for him. :(

mammie - thanks for thinking of him. I am also hoping it works out. I'm now past the self-serving phase of wishing he would behave so badly his mom would send him back. *ouch*

awwww... thanks :)

I'm not sure he will be allowed to come for any extended stays especially over the summer. When he came to live with me, it was actually only suppose to be for 2 weeks while he went to summer school. Then he just wouldn't leave. LOL

I too have been thinking about you, Moonie. I hope that his Mom has really gotten her act together, for his sake. But I know that your heart must be breaking. I hope that you can stay in close contact with him, at least over the phone.

I'm sorry Moonie. One of my aunts (now deceased) took in her great grandson when he was about 2, his Mom came back and got him about 5 years later. Broke my aunt's heart. She didn't get to see much of him either for many years.

I'm sure you do miss him. Heck I miss my grandkids after they've been here for only a week's visit. So I'm sure it is very difficult for you. I sure hope his mom is doing right by him. ((Moonie))

why not plan outings where you can see him but sort of appease mom at the same time?

ask mom if the 3 of you can have lunch at the mall (safe and crowded) don't offer to buy anything except food! or ask mom if you can treat him and a new pal to the movies...what i'm suggesting is always having a buffer where neither of you get bitter over past times...

you may only get an hour but at least you can see each other and get reassured he's doing ok and that mom is trying...

would mom object if you attended organized sporting events? either club or school? while we're on excellent ground with all the kids and grands, we do go the extra mile of atttending soccer, flag football, ect...(like tonight..supposed to be 5 degrees and going to inside soccer! crazy right??)
