I just went back and read your original post about him moving back with his mother. Of course, you would still miss him and he would miss you and your place as it was his home for that long a time. It's left a big hole in your life. I hope that she will allow more visits in the nearby future. Is he doing okay in his new school?

I can understand giving your grandson needed time to make adjustments - and it must hurt at times. At least you can talk to him on the phone, love him with all your heart and know he loves you back.

I had a foster brother when I was very, very young. He was my best friend. Dad was in the military and got posted half way across Canada to a base that had no specialist nearby for Brian. And because it was out of province we could not keep him with our family. He was ill. My Mom worked very hard to get his health stable. We all loved him but had to let him go to a care home. It broke our hearts but it was the best for Brian.

I can only pray things will turn out well for all concerned so you can again see your lovely grandson.

gadgets - I think he is doing ok in the new school. At first he was very upset, not by just changing school systems, but then about which school he would have to attend. But, he is making new friends. I'm not sure how he is doing about homework and such. He should be getting a report card soon and I'm assuming it will be an average of his grades from both schools. I haven't called him this week as I feel his mom thinks I'm being pushy, so I'll call over the weekend.

peg - That must have been very hard to leave your foster brother behind even if it was the best thing for him. :(

mammie - thanks for thinking of him. I am also hoping it works out. I'm now past the self-serving phase of wishing he would behave so badly his mom would send him back. *ouch*

I'm not sure he will be allowed to come for any extended stays especially over the summer. When he came to live with me, it was actually only suppose to be for 2 weeks while he went to summer school. Then he just wouldn't leave. LOL

moonie...I've been there...I know how it feels...took me a long time to deal with it.

I too have been thinking about you, Moonie. I hope that his Mom has really gotten her act together, for his sake. But I know that your heart must be breaking. I hope that you can stay in close contact with him, at least over the phone.

I'm sorry Moonie. One of my aunts (now deceased) took in her great grandson when he was about 2, his Mom came back and got him about 5 years later. Broke my aunt's heart. She didn't get to see much of him either for many years.

How your heart aches. I hope in time you will be able to spend some time with him. I'm sending you a hug.

I'm sure you do miss him. Heck I miss my grandkids after they've been here for only a week's visit. So I'm sure it is very difficult for you. I sure hope his mom is doing right by him. ((Moonie))

why not plan outings where you can see him but sort of appease mom at the same time?

ask mom if the 3 of you can have lunch at the mall (safe and crowded) don't offer to buy anything except food! or ask mom if you can treat him and a new pal to the movies...what i'm suggesting is always having a buffer where neither of you get bitter over past times...

you may only get an hour but at least you can see each other and get reassured he's doing ok and that mom is trying...

would mom object if you attended organized sporting events? either club or school? while we're on excellent ground with all the kids and grands, we do go the extra mile of atttending soccer, flag football, ect...(like tonight..supposed to be 5 degrees and going to inside soccer! crazy right??)
