Matching Miele Dryer??

I have decided to buy the Miele W1213. My standard size Kenmore dryer still works great so I'm not sure if I should purchase the matching dryer.

Pro: Matching pair could be installed under a counter or stacked. My Kenmore has controls on the top so couldn't go under counter. Since this model is discontinued it would be difficult to purchase the matching dryer later. Miele dryer and washer plug into connection box which plugs into existing 220V outlet. This would make installation easier. Otherwise I would need to make another 220V outlet for washer. How do most people make their electrical connections.

Con: It seems wasteful purchasing a new dryer ($800) when old one still works. I'm also very nervous that I won't be happy with a dryer that looks much smaller than a standard dryer. I can't take them back. Is the Miele dryer effective in drying a 6 kg load without the clothes wrinkling or drying unevenly. Are those of you with European size dryers happy with the size or should I keep my standard size Kenmore. Thanks for any input.

When I bought my Euro sized Miele washer in 2003 I kept my old large gas dryer. Yes the set was mismatched - so what?

Advantages were that it was working so I didn't need to spend money on a new one. It was larger than the smaller Euro models so dried very quickly and gave items that tended to wrinkle more room to circulate. The old dryer worked well until last year.

Last year I bought the T9820 gas dryer. With this larger unit I still have extra room to dry items and things come out great.

So If you don't need a new dryer I would keep your Kenmore.

You've got some good points on both sides. Personally, my laundry is in the basement so neither the critters, the crickets nor I care what the laundry units look like, whether they be different color (avacado green washer with white dryer) or style (GE washer & Whirlpool dryer).

That said, I have problems replacing a perfectly good appliance, especially for aesthetic reasons. Why spend the money?

Your concern on the electrical connection is the best argument for getting a new dryer. However, for the electrical connection you would need a second outlet to install the Miele washer. To get around it, you can buy a rather spendy adapter from Miele or have an outlet installed. My question is why not just use the old dryer on the outlet box if you opt for the adapter rather than the second outlet? You might need a different cord on the dryer but that's a $15-$20 expense. I'm not an electrician and not claiming to be, but I see no reason why that wouldn't work.

I'd check the cost of the second outlet. Then I'd go with the adapter and connect the old dryer to it. My last choice would be replacing the dryer.

If you're used to a conventional top loader and going to the Miele you should have a nice system. With the high spin speeds and large capacity on the dryer you should have much faster drying time on many loads.

One other suggestion/reminder: Be sure to cut down the amount of detergent you use, especially starting out and make sure it's low sudsing. If you're used to a larger capacity, you might tend to want to overdose the machine.

Seriously, any dryer will work fine, in my opinion. I got the matching Miele (elec.) dryer because I like things to match. IN the end, I LOVE this dryer because it is a vast improvement over the old one I had. But .... any new gas dryer will do fine if you can live with them not being matchy-matchy. ;o) I might suggest you pay attention to the location of the hinges on the doors of the washer *and* dryer. You would not want them banging against each other while transferring laundry into dryer. Some brands are capable of having the hinges swapped/mirrored. Miele is not capable of that.

This is where someone facile in the installation of Miele products would have paid-off better versus your contractor. Miele has unfortunately removed the link to their ten page pdf for their pedestals. There is very important information as to how to install these pedestals such as the following caveats: Fit the transport struts into the washer. To put the washer on its left side, the transport struts have to be fitted. Did the contractor ever lay the unit on its side? If so, it must be laid on its left side only. Do you have the matching Miele dryer? If so, did you connect the two units with the provided connectors? Other instructional caveats: Danger! The washer/dryer stand is suitable for single set-up. When setting up a washer and dryer combination, the stands have to be connected. The stand is not suitable for installation of a washer and dryer stack. To prevent tipping, as a matter of standard practice, the appliances have to be bolted to the stand. For a dryer single set-up, the stand has to be bolted to the floor with the floor installation kit M. no. 00253532. At least two feet of the stand have to be bolted to the floor, and at least one of them has to be a rear foot. For optimum stability, fasten feet positioned diagonally. Danger of injury: Do not stand on the drawer! Set up only washers/dryers that are not installed, for de-installation instructions, refer to the operating instructions for the appliance. During the installation, make sure that children or animals cannot get into the work area. Wear non-slip work gloves and safety shoes while doing installation work. Non-compliance may lead to, e. g., slipping, and result in serious injury. During the installation, be sure to keep your body and especially hands and feet out of the space under the appliance, or between the appliances. For the installation, tip the washer onto its left side, and the dryer onto its right side. It is important to have sufficient manpower to handle the weight of the appliances. Hi my problem is choosing the correct compact washer. I'm trying to decide between purchasing an Asko 6424 washing machine versus a Miele 1623 because of their compact size and fit into the space for my washer - can't be more than 37.5 inches height, 29 3/4 inches width. The only issue is which one? I heard that the Asko comes with 220v which only works with the comparable Asko dryer - that if I only purchase the washer alone it won't work at all in Canada, where the voltage is only 120v or if you say it will work in Canada with its 220v, the other issue is it won't heat water to 100F without hook up to its mate dryer. Also, I was told by one retailer that Asko is recommended over Miele because Miele is hard to find parts for repair. I was also told that the Asko model is superior because it doesn't have a rubber seal inside the washer as opposed to Miele which does come with the standard rubber seal. I'm worried about the rubber seal inside the Miele causing this odour as I found that my current Bosch front loader has a rubber seal which does cause an odour when used. Last, capacity of the Miele is good coming in at 6K and I'm not sure what the capacity of the Asko is as it doesn't say what capacity on its website. The price for both washers come in at the same price $1699.00 but Miele is offering a 200 dollar discount this month which means the 5 year warranty will be free because that is the cost of a five year warranty or 200 dollars. So as far as price goes, I would find today a 200 dollar saving by purchasing the Miele over the Asko. But is this worth it if the Asko is a better machine? Any ideas which is the better washer. Dont worry about condenserdryers, had different ones my whole life. Only had a vented since moving to the farm 8 years ago and that one dont get used as much as my Miele condeserdryer. I got 2 temps on my dryer, dont know the precise temps but can find out. I dont think my vented dryer is any faster than the condenser one but my vented does only have 3000 watts heater and not that much airflow, miele has 2000 watt heater. I have my draining via a hoze so no emptying any tanks.

I also fall into the camp on keeping a perfectly good appliance. From what you've implied, I assume your existing dryer is electric. With that said, you won't be able to run an American full sized 220V dryer AND the 220V W12xx off of one typical 220V 30A dryer circuit. You can do that with the Miele pair because the dryer consumes about half the current of an American dryer (and gives about half the heat) and the W12xx washer uses the other half. If you keep your existing dryer, your going to have to install a new 220V-15A circuit (if memory serves me) for your new washer.
