I got Frigidaire Affinity to replace top loader in a space with limited depth. I don't recall the exact size of the space but after much research this is the only option that worked for me. There were others that were shallower but they were also narrower and I wanted them to fill up the space I had but not be any deeper than the previous ones. These models get mixed reviews in terms of reliability but I've been satisfied so far - about a year.

Frigidaire has a couple of smaller models -- about 27 inches deep. I would also look at Bosch and Asko. They have models that can be installed under counters and hidden in cabinet runs -- something like 22 inches deep. Another inch would give you more choices, but you still have some front loader options.

Please see my eariler post in this forum, Closet Laundry Install Done (Asko). I'm sure that these Asko compact machines, along with the Bosch Axxis and Maytag compacts, would fit your depth. The question is, are they large enough for you? For the depth issue, you must especially consider the dryer venting. Note that Asko also makes a condenser dryer, but we opted for the vented, which from all accounts drys better and faster than a condenser. Because the Asko dryer has the option to vent from the rear or either side, it can be pushed pretty much to the back wall, as can the washer. If the dryer you choose only vents out the back, you will need to allow several inches (I'd say 6 to be sure) for the vent hose, etc. And that also means a 90 turn in the hose, which decreases efficiency. I don't know if the top-loaders have side vent options. Also, the largest top-loaders (7 cu ft, I believe) are extra deep: If you look at the back, you see that they have a bumpout that extends beyond the cabinet. As far as capacity of the Askos, we are happy so far (it's just the two of us now). We are still getting used to the different temperature and cycle options, so we may be doing 4 loads vs. 3 for time being. But that's not because the washer is too small. Good luck.
