Extra soap in dispenser during rinse

Our new LG WM2487 washer seems to leave extra soap in the dispenser after the wash cycle leaving it to get washed out during the rinse. So the question is, why ? It seems to only happen for cold wash cycles (after a warm cycle started, there was no soap in the dispenser). Is it the detergent (All Small and Mighty HE) ? Is it a problem with the machine ?

It is usually in the low 50s to mid 60s depending on how long it has been hot outside.

I too had this problem with an expensive Kenmore Elite but I decided not to let it bother me. I fill one powder dispenser and leave it open and make sure I have the Jet Dry department always filled. I never observed a lack of top notch cleaning after that, but I did give it to Habitat for Humanity when I got the top of the line Thermador (made by Bosch). The Thermadors and Bosch's are far better than the Miele's at their price points and they are at least as quiet as the best Miele's, which cost $1K more. Greg

southernsticher, the Never MT is basically a long tube with a one way valve on it that attaches from the soap dispenser to a large bottle of soap (dish soap or hand soap.) It takes the place of the plastic soap reservoir that comes with the dispenser. The soap lasts a lot longer between changes and changing is easier since bottles are just swapped out instead of having to pour soap from one container to another. In my case I just have one dispenser at each sink and these dispensers are hooked into my hand soap bottles with the Never MT (tube.) The Never MT comes with different fittings for different size soap bottle mouths. Our soap dispensers were purchased separately from the faucets and don't tie into the faucet in any way. I have a pull down faucet with a single lever handle. We had 2 holes cut---one for the faucet and one for the soap dispenser. Some people do have 2 dispensers--for hand and dish soaps. Our dispenser isn't long enough to reach the plastic tub I put in our single bowl sink for washing dishes. I wouldn't want a long nozzle sticking that far out into my sink because I would probably keep knocking into it with large fry pans and stock pots. My guess is it is a dated item no longer desirable." @Trademark Design the choice of an built-in soap dispenser or soap bottle on the counter is about which function type you prefer. It has nothing to do with being dated or not. In any case, I have yet to see kitchen designers Mick de Giulio, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Plain English, DeVol, Matthew Quinn, or any other top designer use a bottle on the counter. Having said that, I like soap bottles. I also like in-counter dispensers. Neither is dated. People like one type of soap dispenser or the other.

As far as fresh water rinse, the spray rinse nozzle in the LG on certain cycles sprays fresh water (water not entering through detergent tray) onto the clothes while doing an interim spin between wash, rinse, and extra rinses. You will find many of these options are similar among vendors although named differently. On the Lux, rinse water enters strictly bypassing the detergent trays. As for being a real benefit, that's quite subjective. Samsungs Power Foam, LG Turbo Wash, and Kenmores Acela Wash are all basically the same thing. The benefit of manufacturing a machine that reuses rinse water is impractical and would add cost. You basically would need a holding reservoir for the final rinse water (no softener of course), then it could be reused for maybe a pre-wash in the next cycle. Seriously not a big energy savings and quite impractical.

60F is the lower-limit of every "cold" wash article I've ever read. I'm suspecting your detergent is simply not responding well to this temp. Seems reinforced by your observation that cold-water wash cycle is the only one where it happens. Suggest changing products or increasing temperatures.

I've taken to measuring and dispensing my (liquid) detergent directly into the drum (Danby FL). I bet you could do the same.

I have recently bought a product that hooks to my washing machine and I don't have to use any type of laundry detergent, bleach or softners at all!! And, it only uses cold water. It really is a great thing! I can even mix colors and whites together and the clothes come out softer !!! I just gather up a pile of clothes and throw them into the washer... and I no longer have to worry about my husband or daughter messing up the clothes.

Helping others....for really badly soiled loads I use a device revealed to me by the niltwixts from planet Zarcon. Cleans with air. Everything comes out perfect every time.
