Dill in chicken soup? And other soup comments.

I was looking at Ina Garten's chicken soup recipe, which has excellent reviews. I wasn't tempted to follow it exactly (15 pounds of chicken!), but I thought I might adapt it sometime. She calls for dill, which I've never put in chicken soup. Have you?

I made a modified version of her Lentil Vegetable Soup the other day (didn't have leeks and can't have tomato paste), and it was very good.

I was surprised to see garlic in so many chicken soup recipes. It's something I never used before, but it's quite good. Today I made this Chicken Vegetable Barley Soup, again modifying because I can't do potatoes and didn't have quick cooking barley (I used steel-cut oats instead). It was good. Unusual to put toasted almonds in chicken soup, no? Interesting taste/texture, but it seemed a little gimmicky.
