Questions for owners of Whirlpool Duet 9400 Washers
Comments (13)Tip: Don't use HE liquid detergent, it will ruin your washer (ruined my friend's 9400). Sears sells a very good, imo, huge bucket of HE powdered detergent for a very reasonable price. You can even get it delivered via their website if you don't live near a Sears (and a couple times they've offered free shipping which is really nice!) I have had my 9400 washer for almost 2 years with no complaints. It is in a basement on cement and doesn't seem to move at all. It sounds like a small jet plane about to take off during the spin cycle! Not at all loud, but a slight high whine that gets higher and higher unti you think it will either take off or explode (but it doesn't!) Another tip: you should run your hot water in the utility sink before doing a regular warm load. The temp boost only works on the sanitary selection and the whitest whites, and won't help a regular warm load's temp at all. The Duet has a huge capacity which I love! I fill it with jeans, select the heavy duty cycle and everthing comes out clean! (and very wound-up and tangled. you have to shake out your clothes so they don't dry all twisted and wrinkly. I imagine this is with all FL.) What would I change? Nothing really, although we are redoing a new house and I'm strongly considering either the Bosch Nexxt 700 series or the Duets for the new house. The price is slightly lower than the Duet and the Bosch 500 rec'd very good reviews on Consumer Reports. Warning: Too much sudsing is one of the major troubles with the Duet (and probably other FL as well). Always use HE detergent and don't use too much - a little goes a LONG way! Good luck! PS. I really noticed a large drop in our water consumption after installing the Duet....See MoreWhirlpool Duet 9400 Washer died in 3 years- what to buy next?
Comments (23)Heater will NOT engage in normal no matter what. I often use wrinkle free for clothes, husband's dress shirts, sometimes towels. This will not allow a max spin though. I use extra white for white sheets/towels/socks. Usually with extra warm or hot temp and sometimes extended and/or prewash. I have used custom for kids' clothes warm with a max spin speed. I have used express for bathing suits/towels after a day of swimming. A little Vaska on express and everything is fresh for the next day. These items don't really need to be washed daily so express is great (30 minutes). I have used delicates/hand wash for ... well delicate items. This setting works great. More soaking less tumbling. I have used woolens for wool sweaters also great. I LOVE the comforter setting. It will "vent" the item(s) first - wet them thoroughly before it adds the detergent. Very smart. I almost always use the sensitive setting which uses a higher spin speed between wash and rinse and uses an extra rinse. I don't like too much residual detergent smell (if possible). I've used clean machine. I used table linens a few times for table cloths - not really sure what makes that setting good for them. They turned out just fine. The only program I was not thrilled with was the dress shirts one. It only does a medium spin and left the shirts quite wet. I prefer wrinkle free for them (but that's me). I have used prewash and extended. If items are noticeably dirty I use a prewash. I have used extended if I think they need a little longer tumbling. The more agitation the better the wash. Shorter cycles are not the answer for clean items. Gosh ... have fun and keep us posted on how it's going....See MoreWhirlpool Duet washer won't spin

Comments (9)The pattern of flashes on the cycle Status lights is supposed to indicate the error code. Should be a set of flashes 1/2 second apart, a pause for 2 seconds, then a 2nd set of flashes 1/2 second apart. Repeats until power is shut off. Other lights such as for cycle options may be involved, so make note of all the lights that are either steady or flashing. The serial number indicates manufacture in the 25th week of 2011....See Moreasolo
