Frigidaire Affinity 6000 Series

So I just closed on a house and was up at the local electronic super-center and was haggling and haggling and I got the Frigidaire Affinity 6000 washer for 652.50 and the dryer for 468.00 before tax. Is this a good deal? I've only used top loading washers before and my brother says that I was ripped off spending 1120.50 for a washer set. He said I should go with a regular top load system for much less.

Your brother may be trying to cut you down to his size, so to speak. You dared to research current laundry technology and were willing to go with something that cleans and dries better than the bottom end TL models he thinks are good enough. You will reap the benefits of this decision and he will probably remain envious of his clever sibling!

I hope you got the 6000 dryer with the stronger door hinge. As you may note from postings a few months ago here the early models had a poorly designed dryer hinge that allowed the door to be bent out of alignment very easily. If not, ask to have the stronger hinge installed before delivery.

Some of us readily spend 2000-4000 to get the best laundry technology available and we may also get razzed by ignorant relatives or dufuses who tell us we are nuts to spend more than $700 max on a washer and dryer!

I recently bought an Affinity 6000 washer and dryer pair and unfortunately have had nothing but trouble with the washer. Every time the washer starts to speed up to spin the load, the control panel blinks off immediately and the power recycles, stopping the spin. Other times, the washer will simply shut off in mid wash and will not power back on for a half hour or more. I've already had sevice out to replace the control board (which foolishly is located in the BACK of the washer making it necessary to pull the entire unit out if you have it stacked in a closet as I do). I ran a load of laundry right after the service guy left and SURPRISE! Still having the same exact problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem or heard anything about it? I'm waiting to hear what the service people are going to try next... Based on this experience, I'd be a little leary of going with this model (I have an older model in another house that's been working like a charm for 2 years).

I bought the 2940 from Sears for $699 and love it. I just checked their website and it appears they only have it in black now for $749. Mine is white and I have had it for a about 6 weeks. My clothes have never been cleaner. I was tempted by some of the extra features on the more expensive models, but honestly, I don't think I would ever use them. This one has enough cycles for me. It also qualified for a $50 rebate from my electric company and I also got a 20% rebate from Sears. It was a good deal for me!

I have had a 7000 series Affinity since October and have had no issues. Couple questions, was there not a hole in the boot for the light or was this a wire that was not inside of the harness clips? What cycle are you using when you experience the wrinkles? Have you considered a lower spin speed? On the control board, a shortage of parts does not necessarily mean that there is a problem, it could also be in indication of current production demand or a supplier shortage due to their own production issues. I upgraded from a smaller Frigidaire unit and love the bigger capacity, the heater, the light, the color (blue)and the control set up.

In response to Gibby May 26, 08: This has to do with washer failures because of the corrosion of the aluminum "spider" bracket attached to the stainless steel drum. (See the web site http://www.appliancejournal.com/ or just search "Why Kenmore front load washers fail" for lots more information re why using aluminum to join with stainless steel in a liquid medium which the washer will provide is a recipe for failure.) I called Electrolux and spoke with a person in the Extended Service Agreements office (866)386-5286 who informed me that Electrolux no longer has any kind of lifetime warranty on washing machine parts as of 2005. I then called the parts department at 1-800-599-7569 where I was informed that the spider bracket attached to the steel drum in this model (and I presume all other Affinity models) was made of aluminum. (By the way it used to be made of stainless steel previous to 2005 when the lifetime warranty was in effect. Nice timing,eh?) I then called my local parts dealer and was not surprised to hear that when the aluminum spider brackets would inevitably corrode to such an extent as to need replacement (say four years?) then the cost of labor and parts to replace the drum assembly spin basket which contains the spider bracket arms would run me about $500. Thanks, but no thanks, I will be returning the washer.

What does the stronger door hinge look like? I'm not sure of the difference.

The weaker dryer door hinge is a bright shiny metal. The stronger dryer door hinge has a matte finish metal.

Whichever one you get you can get the stronger hinge put on afterward. Not a big deal.

I had them trade units out. I first got the weak hinge and now I have the new and improved hinge.

Did you mean replace machines? You had them replace the whole machine because of a hinge?

They could have, but I would have to contact an authorized Frigidaire service center and schedule an appointment or what not. It was easier for me and less scheduling headaches to have the store I bought it from just to replace the whole unit.

Greetings! Today we took delivery of a Frigidaire Affinity 6000, replacing the Kenmore front loader that died after only 6 years (broken shaft). We've run 4 loads through it - everything seems to be okay. I can't hear when it's done - basement laundry. I want to turn the signal volume up to the max but can't figure out how to do it. I've scoured the manuals - print and online - but there aren't directions on how to adjust the signal volume, only that it can be done.
