Can This be made ahead and reheated?

I have my SIL' Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe. I would like to make it a day ahead and re-heat, if possible. She has never done so, and apparently never had left overs to re-heat, so she can't tell me. What do you think?

BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP

2 -- 10 to 13 oz cans all white chicken (drained and shredded)

1 cup Frank's or Texas Pete's hot sauce place in skillet and cook until hot.

add 2-- 8 oz pkgs cream cheese and 1 cup ranch dressing

cook until melted and mixed.

add 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese. cook until melted and mixed.

pour into crock pot.

add 1 cup cheddar cheese on top and heat until bubbly.

serve with tortilla chips and celery

I will be in the motor home and can do it that morning, but I would rather not.

I never made that, but I don't see why it couldn't be reheated. I'd do everything up to the point where you add cheese to the top, I'd do that step when it was reheated.

I have made a similar dip ahead & reheated. My recipe used previously cooked chicken breast & was not cooked in the crock pot. I think it will be fine. I did cook it thru, refrigerated, then reheated. I have also had some leftovers that I have nuked the following day.

I would not hesitate to do ahead, at least the first 45-50 minutes of the recipes cooking time. Leave off the final layer of goat cheese and the parm for the later re-heating 25 min or so. Keep it covered during that early cooking. Take out of the oven and fold open a corner to let the steam and heat escape and cool down faster. -you could go ahead and add your last cheese layer and herbs so it is all ready to go later for ease. Pop it in the fridge covered to retain moisture and not dry out. Potatoes have an unpredictable cooking time and can be an oven hog, so go ahead and cook them in the morning.

linnea, I'm assuming the squash is a mashed casserole type dish? If so it can be made ahead and reheats well. Sweet potatoes can usually be made ahead too, depending on the application. I'm cooking all the sweet potatoes the day before, then making a gluten free sweet potato torte, that sticky-sweet-marshmallow-topped casserole and probably chipotle mashed sweet potatoes for Elery and I, all the day before. Broccoli can be cooked ahead for most applications and will also rewarm well, the sauce can be added at the last minute if the broccoli is already cooked or if it's something like broccoli cheese it can all be done a day in advance. I also bake the pies and other desserts the day before, they all keep well, and I make butterflake rolls the day before and keep the unbaked rolls in the fridge, bake them the day of. I've never had anyone complain about a homemade dinner roll baked the day before, though. (grin) All the salad ingredients could be washed/cut/prepared ahead and then tossed with the viniagrette the next day, and someone here has made the mashed potatoes the day ahead too and I think they were warmed in the crockpot, but I might be confusing two techniques. I find that preformed sticky buns often take well more than 1 1/2 hours to come to room temp and begin to rise....and add another 30 minutes to bake and you are talking 2 hours. But...if you make the dough, and refrigerate the dough over night, you can shape the rolls more easily with cold dough, and the working, rolling etc, will hasten the warming, then put the pan into a closed space, like your microwave, with a 2 cup measure of very hot water and they will rise right up.....and you will have your rolls in about an hour and a half instead of 2 hours. Or do as I usually do, make a double batch the night before....wrap the pan in foil when it's hot out of the oven and reheat in a 300 oven in the morning....and eat the 2nd pan as it comes from the oven!

Thanks. I emailed her back to see what she does if she has leftovers. This calls for the canned chicken, already cooked, and it looks like just getting everything cooked/blended/melted together, then put in the crockpot hot. It will be a very busy day, so I didn't want to do it all that day, but maybe I will anyway. I'll have to heat it up before putting it in the crockpot anyway.

Tami - Forgetting a minute about the "make-aheadedness" - have you eaten this and can vouch for the recipe? Sounds like a great dip for a casual crowd.

This is delicious! My recipe is similar - but I tasted another person's at a party that was sooooooo much better than mine & the only difference was the canned chicken. I am going to make it with the canned chicken next time. I also add chopped pickled jalapenos for a little zing!

FOAS, no I haven't eaten it. I can't, as the ranch dressing has garlic in it. My DS & DS have had it tho and like it. I don't like hot foods, so I probably wouldn't have tried it anyway. The anniv party is a big back yard open house type party, so it will go great. Thank you for thinking about making sure it was a tasty recipe. She has made this for over a year that I know of, and it is always a hit.

I've tasted one very similar, don't recall the ranch dressing think it was blue cheese dressing, and it was delicious!

I think Kframe has a recipe like this too.

I've made this Buffalo Chicken Dip - both ways, canned chicken and fresh chicken breasts that I poached for this recipe. I like the fresh chicken breast better.

I also used a whole bottle of blue cheese dressing instead of Ranch but either would be good I suppose.

Shaun beat me to it...I had it with the canned chicken....and to me canned chicken is slimy....and it's sure not hard to cook up some frozen chicken breasts and cut them up.
It's also a great dip for grilled wings...

Thanks for all the ideas. I got an email back from my SIL, they re-heat the left overs! DUH. Guess it could be made ahead then!

We like this recipe too and I've reheated it with no problems at all. I think the recipe I used had blue cheese dressing rather than ranch too. Great party food for sure!
