Somewhat Finished, Somewhat Budget... White Vintage Kitchen
Comments (53)buffalotina, The laminate is holding up well... so far no scratches or any other complaints. LOVE the Aura paint! We used it to paint the entire house. The cabinets are painted with Aura Satin and the walls in Matte. I'm very pleased with the Aura paint so far... It's holding up well and any spills wipe up nicely. We primed with the Benjamin Moore Fresh Start, Stain Block primer (waterbased). Their primer was more expensive but went on smoothly and coated much more like a oil based primer, so we felt it was worth the $$$. I have to say that painting the cabinets was a LOT of work! Honestly, more work then I expected. I was also pretty burnt out on painting at that point, as we had just painted every wall, ceiling and trim piece in the house. We sanded before the each coat... and it probably took between 2 and 3 coats to get them perfectly smooth with good thick coverage. I was lucky to have my mom helping, she has painted many cabinets and is quite an experienced painter. It was worth the work in our case, because I didn't want to pay $$$ to have them sprayed... One other thing I noticed about the Aura paint... it stays a little sticky for about a month (only notiecable on the shelves). We painted fire place mantle and built-ins with it too. I asked at the store and they said the Aura takes 30 days to fully cure. So just an FYI if you're painting any shelves....See More99% Finished Kitchen--creamy white w/soapstone
Comments (156)Beautiful, cozy, elegant! My black soapstone just came in. My cabinets are a very light maple shaker style. Appliances all Stainless steal. I will have an island. It's time to paint my newly sheet rocked walls. I'm leaning toward white with a different white for trim and ceilings but there are so many whites I can't decide. I am worried about making it too cold and sterile. Also thinking of a very slight gray perhaps on one walls. The kitchen has decent light but not great. The entry near sliding door has raja slate. I do not have high ceilings but they are 11 ft. It is not completely open to living room but partially open to dining room. Backsplash will be white sub tile. Any suggestions for paint color. We like clean, crisp, minimalist looks with straight lines but also cozy. Thanks for any suggestions!...See MoreTraditional/transitional white kitchen finished pictures
Comments (21)Thanks so much everyone for the kind comments! I will definitely do this space justice and use a real camera and post pictures once we are all done. Just to quickly follow up with some questions: -hardware is from hickory hardware in polished nickel...bought at our local home depot which happens to be a superstore, know reg. Home depots don't seem to carry......can go online to hickory hardware to see who sells locally too.... -dining table and chairs crate and barrel ( love the glass top, kid friendly an bein a small space opens the room; once I save me money hopin to get a colorful rug to warm up the space-in love with the mandala rug in blue from Madeline weinrib at ABC carpet and home -the range hood I had custom designed from our cabinet maker, plain and fancy. Wanted a bit formal because we tore down wall between dining room and galley kitchen to make one big space and you can see the hood when open front door so wanted something pretty and inviting... All the Best, Rosie -dining pendant is Pearson pendant from restoration hardware...See MoreFinished! I love my white, marble, wood kitchen!
Comments (60)drmom2: I don't live in the Houston area. I am in NC. My best advice to you is to look at several different granite/marble yards. Our marble is calcatta gold and it varied so much from place to place but when my husband and I found this one, we knew it was the one. We both loved it right away. All the things you have read about marble in the kitchen are likely true. Our marble is polished and the only problem we have had is with etching. The way I understand it, you will have little risk of etching with honed marble but you may be more prone to stains. I believe the polish helps protect it to some degree. However, we did get a coffee stain but I made a poltice that lifted it right off, so I was very happy. Despite the etching, I love the marble and I would do it again! irishcreamgirl: I am afraid I do not recall the info on the chandelier over the table. We bought it many years ago at a local lighting store which is now closed. It may be by Seagull lighting but I am not sure. Sorry I am not more help! roseofblue: Thanks for all the compliments! My marble is polished. See above for comments on that. I do love it and thought originally that I would go with honed as that seemed to be the recommendation on this site. However, the marble was polished in the store and I loved it that way so just couldn't hone it. I knew I would be at greater risk of etching. And there is plenty of it but I still love it. You really have to look at the marble at an angle to see the etching and most people would never see it. The stools are leather and very comfortable. They are the Pullman stool by Crate & Barrel. The floor is oak hardwood and the stain is Jacobean. We previously had Provential and I felt that was too light. I am happy with this stain. We do have hardwoods throughout the house except for carpet in one room (and tile in various places). The floor is easy to care for. We have a dust mop to "sweep" it and then use Bona for cleaning. Or sometimes just warm water in areas. The house is about 45 years old. It was a classic brick ranch but during our recent renovation we added a second floor. We went from 3300 sq. ft. to 4800 sq. ft. You can see pics and info about my master and powder bathrooms on the bathrooms forum. My laundry room is posted on the laundry forum. Just search jlynn17 on the forum and you will find them. Good luck with your kitchen and let me know if you have any other questions!...See Morerufinorox
