Strawberry Jam question

User

I made two batches of jam this week.

Eight cups of berries, 7 cups sugar, liquid pectin.

In the first batch, the "jelly" part of the jam set very well, but the fruit, which settled at the top didn't set at all. I even turned over some of the jars after canning.

The second batch didn't set at all.

I've been making jam for about 40 years, using both liquid and powdered pectin and I've rarely had a batch fail. I found some jars from about four years ago in the back of the pantry - and they jelled perfectly. Though the peach jam I made the following year didn't set .

The wild violet jelly I made earlier this spring also set up perfectly.

I'm getting ready to redo both of these and I'd like it to work this time.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Barb
