I like a latte, fresh and hot, and I've come to prefer one in the afternoon instead of morning. At the end of the work day, when it comforts me. Gets me ready for the evening. I love to sleep in. Hardly ever get to, so when I have a morning when I don't have to be anywhere I love to stay in bed and stay in that soft place between sleep and awake where you are relaxed and you are aware of how relaxed you are. Spending a day with a friend. Had a Saturday last fall when an old friend was in town, we spent it at an outdoor book festival on a quaint downtown square and had lunch at a great French cafe. Soooo nice! I even said to her in the moment how I felt so relaxed and sort of one with myself. That "find yourself" moment recharges the batteries for a long time. I love taking the kids to the pool on a hot summer day and being so completely worn out from the play time that we just fall asleep smelling chlorine and cut grass. Visiting my parents, sitting around their fire pit roasting marshmallows. Fourth of July. I love the Fourth of July, parade, concert in the park, cook out, and fireworks. It's an annual family reunion for us, we go to Ohio to the town where I was born and most of my family still lives. Love to see my cousins and our kids playing together. Just thinking about these things makes me feel better. ;o) It's been a long week already!

Coffee Sushi The Bachelor/Bachelorette shows George Clooney-I don't get why everyone thinks he is so great Wearing Ugg boots, with shorts, when you live in LA (or a warm place) and it's 75 degrees out! People who are glued to their phones/blackberry. You aren't the president, your messages are not critical to the rotation of the earth! Rye bread Sour cream Soda & iced tea Violent Horror movies-I'm not entertained by seeing blood & gore. and lastly, no one likes this, but it goes on here at the KT...people who try to intimidate you and talk over you to prove their point. Slept in on Monday, after driving over a hundred miles one way, on each of Friday and Saturday to a bunch of seminars and displays relative to investments, and going to church Sunday, where I announced at social hour of a 2-hour nation-wide phone-in from 4 - 6 p.m. that afternoon about assisted suicide, which had been spoken of in the service. Teased some ladies playing dominoes here at the library today, saying that it didn't look like much fun - that the tiles all looked alike. And the story that I told here a while ago about not stripping the husks off of ears of corn in the store. I find that I've told that story a number of times, recently: usually results in a smile or two (including one on my face). Laughter is the best medicine. ole joyfuelled

Never had a professional massage or manicure or pedicure. I don't like people I don't know touching me.....oh, wait...maybe that is a quirk?? ;) Never had a tattoo. Never watched many weekly series on tv...like Dallas, Seinfield, MASH, because I stopped watching tv for the most part when I was in jr. high....another quirk?? Never gave my baby one ounce of formula. Never been to a casino. Never been on a cruise.

Drove a straight stick grain truck hauling grain from the fields to the elevators in town. This included pulling onto the scales, then dumping and pulling back on the scales. Shortest trip was 8 miles round trip, furthest trip was about 30 miles. Did this for several years until I got a REAL job.

Monica - marched with MLK - cool!

I've got nothing that interesting. Can it be dumb things you did? If so...

1.) stuck a tweezer in an electrical outlet and survived with absolutely no injuries.
2.) I was a pedestrian and got hit by a car going 30 miles an hour. Again no injuries - I was knocked out though.
3.) stuck a wire hanger under my tongue which got lodged and came out my chin. This one left injuries but nothing long lasting.

I was 8 when the above 3 things happened. I can't imagine being my mother that year. Things calmed down after that.

Wrote a poem that Bob Barker read on The Price is Right.

Wrote a cartoon caption (and was paid for it) that was published in The New Yorker.

Developed 30+ tofu recipes for Rodale Press.

Gave tofu cooking demonstrations for groups.

Did a call-in radio show on breastfeeding.

Spent a good part of 1995 helping hundreds of WWII vets locate their military buddies.

At a previous home I hand-tamed most of the wild birds at the feeder, including a flock of Evening Grosbeaks and a flock of migrating Redpolls.

Performed stand-up comedy just to see if I could do it.

Sang and played the piano once a month at a nursing home for a couple of years.

    Photographed a friend's home birth.

Gave birth to my son with my little daughters peering over my knee.

    - Went white river rafting in the Kern River.

    - Worked in a dude ranch as a guide when I was 16.

    - Have seen two Mountain Lions in the wild. Once while driving. Once while on horseback. The lion was in a tree right above where I had stopped my horse. The horses ears went back signaling me that something was wrong. I looked up, and there was the Mountain Lion (Cougar) about 10 feet above me. Yikes. We moved out of there in a hurry!

Hmm, lots of very interesting things!!

I raised, trained, and ran a 3 dog team of Alaskan Malamutes for about 8 years. I ran 2 sled dog races, 3 dog team/3 miles, came in 3rd one year and in the middle of the pack the next year. It was a local race I helped sponsor.

I raised and trained a colt I traded for one of my Malamute puppies and rode in a 30 mile horse endurance ride. Came in last and got the red lantern award the first year. Rode again the next year to beat my time and finished in the middle of the pack.

I raised two guide dog puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind. They both went on to become working guides. I got to meet one of the recipients, but couldn't make the ceremonies for the second dog. I was brought to my knees by the gratitude of the people receiving the dogs. The impact on their lives will stay with me forever.

We recently held a pirate wedding reception for DD. All the guests dressed as pirates.

I was once "held" by some people who wanted me out of the way for a bit. Wasn't mistreated but wasn't free to leave either.

Walked into a nudie bar when I was 15 looking for a guy I knew.

Rarely like almost never had to pay for concerts in the 60s. There were lots of outdoor venues and I was always mostly backstage. (no I wasn't a groupie LOL)

Participated in Free Speech rallies at Berkeley.

    Was a weekend hippie.

Was served alcohol in a gay leather bar in the Castro when I was 14/15. I was so naive I didn't know it was gay. LOL

Had a gun pointed at me more than once.

Helped "babysit" a heroin addict through withdrawal.

DD and I unknowingly swam in an Australian rock pool that was swarming with deadly blue ringed octopus.

Twice I've found passed out people laying in the road who appeared to be dead. They weren't but still...what are the odds?

Was once reading an online court document with statements from the FBI of an investigation they were doing undercover with surveillance. To my surprised I recognized myself in it. I was an unknown female who approached.......blah blah blah. LOL

    Boy these are good!
I have had kind of a dull life too. Well maybe.

I had a lesbian best friend (neighbor) when I was a teen. It was news to me later because at the time boys were falling all over her and she was dating them. She came out long after our friendship was over. She was a wonderful fun friend and I still miss her.

I went to a local bar (before dh) and a lady approached me and tried to pick me up by saying I looked like Sissy Spacek -sp? (I wish)

Lost and gained a lot of weight several times and am back on the losing side again.

Have lived with mom's having many cancers the last 5 years. Horrible, blessed time and each day is precious because the cancer might win this time.

In my late 20's I kicked a bodybuilder out of my car who wouldn't get out was trying to talk me into his place. I had nicely given him a ride when a friend said he was OK. For a minute I was scared and then I got mad as h and told him if he didn't get out of my car I would drive him to my mom's and SHE would. This was before everyone had cell phones. I was very lucky..

Walked across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge several times on the bridge walk. They quit having them because of security issues - sniff.

Rode across the SF Golden Gate bridge on a fire truck (professional tour that was great).

Went fishing in a white water raft on the Snake River in Wyoming.

Heard ghosts several times. One in an old hotel at night - shudder.

Had 2 visits by people in dreams that had passed on. The one dream, I didn't know the man had died. He came to tell me he had and that he was OK. I read about his death the next night in the newspaper.

Raised my orphan foal from 5 weeks on after his mother died.

Went swimming in a river where we saw big ole alligators upstream.

Slept in a Toyota van on a ranch (with dh) and watched the cows get rounded up the next day.

Took a motorhome as far as Utah from PA and same mh to FLA. Wouldn't want to put gas in that thing now.

Went to Oregon last year and hubby salmon fished (none). We camped along a river where the Oregon trail crossed. When we travel, we camp a day or two and then stay at a hotel so we don't kill each other *G*. Saw a juvenile whale in the ocean on the same trip.

Started traveling on planes when I was 50. Now I love flying! If you are afraid - go to the airport and look around. You will be the only one who is scared there.

Nearly died as a newborn due to pyloric stenosis; have ugly 'thermometer scar' from that surgery. (No anesthesia for infants in those days.)

Had an hour's ride in the Goodyear blimp over Miami when I was about ten.

Had mumps in all six glands in my throat on the same trip to Miami.

Was spoiled for life after crossing the Atlantic in first class on the "Ile de France" when I was 14. Toured the "John Knox" house in Edinburgh on the same trip. (Years later genealogy showed the house had been built by an ancestor who was executed for his support of Mary, Queen of Scots.)

Met my DH when we were four and seven -- forgotten until we dated as young adults. His family were friends with that of my first best friend, who lived across the street from me.

As a volunteer in the ER, I solved the mystery of the patient who came in with a possible broken leg and yelling, "Jack kicked me!" (He'd been changing a tire.)

Got lost alone on horseback in Estes Park, Colorado when I was about 12; remembered to let the horse take me 'home'.

DH and I have been guests on "Oprah", championing open records for adult adoptees.

Lots of things, camped in the African bush with pit latrines and bucket showers, went on a walking safari with a Masai warrior, hot air balloon in the masai mara over the great migration, swam in the Amazon River, flew in a helicopter over Victoria Falls, fished for piranha and ate my catch, it goes on and on. I almost died of pneumonia when I was a baby. Mom said she could hear me coughing outside.

Some of you have had wonderful adventures!

During the 1940s, my mother and I milked 6 cows by hand each morning and night.

I was one of the adult leaders who camped out with the Boy Scouts for their Polar Bear badge. The temperature sank to minus 12 F that night. It was no fun.

I have taken a dip in the spoil pit by an oil well. [Oil is pumped into settling tanks and after the oil and brine has separated, the "pumper" drains off the brine into a holding "spoil" pit. The brine is nasty, but will rid your body of chiggers and chigger eggs.]

Have driven a car in all states except for Hawaii, Alaska, and Florida.

Have driven a car at night at highway speed when a wheel came off.

    Eaten zebra and elephant

Sat in Ben Franklin's chair in Independent Hall in Philadelphia.

    Shot a man.

Installed the plumbing in an entire house by myself during a renovation, and passed the mechanical inspection.

Rolled a tractor into a creek when the bridge I was driving across collapsed and didn't get hurt.

Have a beautiful picture of my recent visit to the Taj Mahal in India, of myself, hubbie and two children. The glorious building is in the background.

    Pricelss, the best trip ever.

Grew up on a dairy farm in ohio and learned to dive a team of belgian draft horses (1 ton each)when i was 6yrs old.

Served two enlistments in the U.S.A.F. from 1966 till 1973(Viet Nam Era).

Stood on a guard detail in front of the Loraine Motel in Memphis, Tenn the morning after MLK was assasinated.

Was on a detail that rode an Air Force C-130 for four days, continually flying west around the world twice and every time they stopped for fuel it was breakfast time...LOL..finally returned to where we started and to this day none of us know what that was about.

Got spit on by hippie protesters in both Cleveland and Chicago while traveling from one base to another.

Did two tours in Viet Nam (during my second tour i was pulled out early because my mother protested through the Red Cross. It seems i was combat exempt because I was the sole surviving son of a combat veteran).

Spent four years in Germany and travelled throughout Europe.

Was a Scoutmaster for military dependant boys in Germany and lead an 8 day 50 mile hike from Bitburg, Germany to Bastogne, Belium.

Took up photography as a hobby while in Germany and later got into it professionally for a couple years with a newspaper. Now I do it as a retirement hobby.

Drove an 18 wheeler that had two transmissions, one behind the other with two gear shifts and a total of 24 gears.

Hauled a 162ft bridge beam from Elyria, Ohio to lower Manhattan in New York City.

After truck driving I worked in construction and attended night school. Got certified to Journeyman level in 5 different building trades.

Spent 54 days in pretrial confinement awaiting trial on a misdemeanor offence that has a maximum penalty of 10days, and i was found not guilty at trial.

Back in my truck driving days in the mid 70's I was living in Massachusetts and I rented a room from Jan & Ken. Jan was working civil service at the base where I finally discharged and she had just been assigned to work in the area where I had worked. I spent months sitting at the kitchen table helping her with her paperwork and teaching her the job. About a year later I moved away and we were out of touch until three years ago. I found out that she retired with 36yrs service on the base.

I was living in Ohio and Jan and I talked on the phone a couple times a week for over a year, until last August when I moved to Mass and she and I are now together and havig a blast.
