LG internal water heater question.

Hello. DH and I purchased an LG WM0642HW from HD. It's the rear control 3.8 front loader. It won't be delived until later in the month.

Does anyone know how hot the water gets with the internal heater? I didn't see it in the owners manual, that I read online.

LG customer service told me yesterday the sanatizing cycle heats the water to 160 degrees.

This is really annoying. My Duet9400 was exactly the same. I had to call Whirlpool directly in order to learn the nominal temps available. Seems to me the manual was written for a child.

Except for the European machines with 220v connections, all these machines boost to 125-130f for "hot" and 155-165f for "sanitary". Cycle-times increase accordingly.

We just bought the newest Bravos model 800 series washer and dryer and it does have the heater. I have run 3 loads so far - a queen comforter ran on bulky and it filled the top a little more than half way. Then I did a heavy king quilt and it was about the same. I am waiting to do my King bedspread tomorrow - it will fill the machine I am sure. Then I did a load of towels used on my dogs after their bath and one that we keep on the porch to wipe their feet. I must say the cycles are LONG - DH and I stood there the entire time watching it fill, wash, rinse, and spin. For as little movement as it seemed to have - the dirtest towel came out clean. I was really surprised by the spray rinse cycle. I would think it would need to fill the tub up as least as much as when it washed to get the soap out. I am not sure I am convinced they were really rinsed completely. But now to the dryer, which has me really perplexed. It took more time than programed for to get the comforter and quilt dry when using the Bulky cycle. I had to put each on for an additional 10 minutes on the Timed cycle to finish drying them. I did stop the machine a couple time to shift around the comforter to get the damp areas exposed and the same for the quilt. (These were not dried together but seperatley.) Then I put the load of towels in and they were not dry after 44 minutes on the normal cycle. Took an additional 15 minutes to get them dry and these are old towels not thick and lush like my bath towels are. There were about 6 towels in there. Plus I found lots of loose dog hair in the dryer that I never found in my old Kenmore. The vent was full as it always was in my Kenmore but either the hair did not come out in the wash as it usually would with my old machine or it wasn't filtered out in the vent. I don't like having to check for it each time I wash the dogs stuff. I plan on doing the dogs comforter ( yes they have one!) tomorrow. I know it will be full of hair. Any suggestions on the cycle to use to get towels done the fastest and what about the long drying times? Does it take longer to do your laundry than before? I would expect so with the washer but hoping the drying time would be less with the spinning efficency of the washer. In case anyone is interested - Home Depot here is having 10% off appliances the day after Christmas. That is on top of sale price now. hhgregg matched HDs price yesterday for us and delivered today. They also upgraded us from a 700 series washer to a 800 series for the same price as the 700 at HD.

The manual for my Boscch washer shows a few inches of minimum clearance at the top of the washer. I don't really think that it is necessary though. I have seen countertops over large capacity FLs and it works just fine. Yes, the front of the Bosch washers has to stick out a little because of the panel, but that won't keep me from putting a countertop over it. A standard countertop will cover the flat part of the washher's top plus extend out a little bit on the back and we plan on installing a sliding "wall" (piece of wood or something) in the back to conceal the hoses and water faucets. I have seen this setup with a Kenmore HE3t and I liked it a lot. The height of the countertop will indeed be above the standard height, but I am 5'10" and don't have any problems with that. Does the countertop specs address the installation above a w/d? Does it specifically say not to do that? I wonder why a countertop is okay above a dishwasher that actually steams when you open it, but not a washer... Not only does the countertop create a clean line, it will also keep things from falling behind or in between the w/d. I don't see any reason not to install it that way.

Okay, something isn't right here. If you had a 40 gal water heater and after 9 years you couldn't get a 15 minute shower, I could buy that. But an 80 gal water heater?!? Do you have multiple shower heads or otherwise move a large volume of water? A broken dip tube or a thermostat issue could cause this problem, but if you tell me that you don't have multiple shower heads, I'm hesitant to conclude that it's sediment. I'm a big fan of gas tankless. They save about 39% on water heating costs, take up less space and don't run out of hot water. Of course they are more expensive and require proper sizing.

I realize this is a late post, but if your builder didn't know that a tankless almost always needs a 3/4" gas line, I would get a new builder. That's a very bad sign of ignorance, and builders should be the experts--you shouldn't have to ask anybody else. Especially if he didn't know you had a 1" line that could EASILY be tapped into with a 3/4" extension to the unit. Especially if he is not familiar with tankless units. Takagi and Rinnai are the best, followed closely by Rheem. Condensing models put out more bang for the buck with less btus, and use less energy. (And btw, there are new models of tankless that do indeed use 1/2" gas lines, but the unit usually needs to be within 20-25 feet of the gas meter (not likely) and often doesn't put out the hot water that the other units do.)

Thank you both.

It is annoying with the manuals. They really are lacking in content, and it isn't just for washers anymore.

I am just so excited to get this pair (and the townhome). I have been dealing with a carpy apartment machine that don't clean well.

I have exact same washer.. On sanitary, mine gets to about 73 degrees celsius (about 165 Fahrenheit).
Somewhere on this forum someone mentioned the following for link to the svc manual for this machine.. I believe it's:

blazinlo- Do you have any vibration from this model LG? I have read that some of the others will shake down the house.I thought this might be a heavier unit than the models that will stack.

I hope it doesn't shake too bad. It's going on the 2nd floor. It's got nothing but 5 star reviews at HD.

My WM0642HW is installed in my basement on my concrete foundation. I have ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, vibrations. I will say that when I have a small load (two items), the inner drum can be seen shifting w/ every rotation, but this does not cause the machine to vibrate. I hope my machine is not the exception ;-)

FYI - little off subject -- I use persil for colors as my detergent. I have soft (and slightly alkaline - 7.6) water and use about 1/2 TEASPOON per load (little less for small load, little more for huge load, but on avg 1/2 Tsp). I mix my softner w/ vinegar and add this to softener compt. I add vinegar to bleach compt when not using bleach (99% time I dont use bleach). Clothes come out bright, white, fresh. (the vinegar is used to make the water slightly more acidic so that the soap rinses out better). I've had my machine for 1 and 1/2 yrs so far w/ only one issue (which happened during 1st wk of operation)...That issue (some error code - cant remember exact code) showed only one time when I reached in and spun (spinned?) the tub while machine was off. To fix, I unplugged for about 15 mins and plugged back in.. Error has never shown again. I'm completely satisfied. Periodically, I will run a sanitary cycle empty w/ about 1/4 cup of cascade complete dishwasher detergent. This is preventative. I've never had issue w/ mold or any "Off" scents...

The LG washers get up to 165 degrees. The Whirlpool Duets get up to 153 degrees.

FYI - I had always heard that the LG WM0642HW will heat water on any cycle when it's deemed necessary... I can now vouch for the sanitary and hot cycles. I was doing a HOT wash other day. initial temp was 37 C. Checked it later on and it was 48 C.
Also, regarding vinegar in bleach dispenser. never mix bleach and vinegar. And realize that the dispenser doesnt empty until approx the last 5 mins of the wash cycle.
