I believe Carrier Infinity Heat pumps are only available in full ton size-not 1/2 ton increments. You should verfify this.

Has your ductwork been inspected as far as size,condition, insulation qualities, adequate supplies/returns? Any hot/cold spots in your home that need to be addressed?

Price seems reasonable although I always recommend three quotes minimum and of course a written load calculation.

What size heat strips has your dealer recommended?

What is the SEER and HSPF eff rating for the HP unit quoted?

Thank you for your reply. Ductwork has been inspected, all fine. No Hot/Cold spots. SEER rating is 16.0 and HSPF is 9.0. Don't remember discussing heat strips and don't have a written load calc.

I will get a couple of other qoutes and check on the ton size.

Post the model numbers of the condenser and air handler and I will verify the equipment sizing as well as EER/SEER/HSPF. You need these model numbers in writing to avoid a "bait and switch" later or other problems with "I thought I was getting this, but I got that."

This is a great system. It looks as if it qualifies for the Fed Energy Eff Tax Credit but you will need to verify with your Carrier dealer.

I assume nat gas is not available.

I assume this is a 4 ton system. I still would request in writing the load calculation and find out what size heat strip the dealer recommends.

You may want to consider an ext 10 yr parts/labor warranty.

Thank you. Dealer said the unit is 4 to 3 ton capacity. No Natural Gas available. Comes with 10 yr warranty on compressor and 5 yr on entire unit. rate is 11.03/kwh. What will the load calc tell me and what is a heat strip?

Thank you all for helping. I think I am getting on my dealer's nerves, keep going back for more clarification. That said, they are highly recommended and the rep has spent a lot of time explaining things. Other posts talk about how important it is to have a quality install, I trust I will get one with this company. Makes me not want to deal with getting other quotes.

25HNA6 is the (partial?) model number of the condenser only. Need model# of the matching air handler also to verify system ratings. The ratings depend on the air handler selected.

A heat strip is the back-up heating in the air handler. Below 32 degrees, the house loses heat faster that the heat pump can provide it, so back-up (auxillary heat) is needed. Yours should be 15 kilo-watts, my guess.

Don't worry about calling the dealer often - he's there to help you.

A load calculation simply verifies the heat loss(heating) and heat gain(cooling) so that your new Infinity HVAC is sized correctly. It is called the Manual J and is the professional method of sizing your new Infinity HP system. I would expect a 4 ton to be the correct size.

Your warranty does not include labor. That is why I suggested you consider the 10 yr parts/labor ext warranty.

Strip heat is called your aux heat and is used in conjuction with your heat pump for those extra cold days. It is sized based on your area's climate-average low winter tenp, your home's insulation qualities, and other factors including your family's comfort level.

There are three parts to a great system.
1.Good properly sized HVAC equipment
2.good ductwork properly sized with little leakage.
3.And finally good installation.

Just a few ideas.

Hi, I think you got a great price. I'm working on my quote but it is higher, maybe because I need more work.
I'm getting an entire system Carrier Infinity Series 16, (25 HNA 636) air handler (model FEMNB006), AprilAir 2200, 10 year warranty on parts, 2 years on labor, and some duct work.

If you have installed the system, let me know how satisied you are, and if you have had any problems. Also, have you found out if this qualifies for tax deductions.

The requirements for the Federal Tax Credit for an air source heat pump is 15 SEER minimum, 13 EER, and 9 HSPF (all 3 must be met).

There is a typo in the air handler model# - I couldn't look it up to verify SEE/EER/HSPF.
